I started a project for searching Unicode characters from your terminal, similar to unicode.party and @sethmlarson's utf8.xyz (but as a TUI instead of a web app).

I initially thought I'd call the project "utf", but that has a name conflict on PyPI (due to similarity to utf7, utf9, etc. likely).

What would you suggest I name this project?

@webology I've been tempted by 8BitDo's controllers, even more so now with Delta being in the App Store. Something to investigate if I find myself using it for more than Pokemon :)

@webology ๐Ÿ‘€ That's a great idea, I have an in progress save for Seasons that I should transfer to my phone.

Just recently finished Super Mario RPG on the Switch. I never played the original on SNES, but it was a lovely game (and felt even better knowing that Paper Mario Thousand Year Door for the Switch is around the corner, 2024 is the year of Mario RPGs apparently!)

Lots of visual humor packed into the small number of graphics and movement options, I never had to grind throughout the whole story but still game over-ed twice, battles kept you engaged with the action commands. 10/10 ๐Ÿคฉ

sethmlarson,
@sethmlarson@fosstodon.org avatar

@whaley There's two difficulty settings: "Breezy" and "Normal", I chose "Breezy" which makes the game considerably quicker since battles last less long. My guess is "Normal" is a similar experience to the original?

I'm not normally a fan of Debian but they just axed Stefan's mpdecimal so I'd say today is a good day for Debian. No one needs that asshat around or involved unnecessarily

sethmlarson,
@sethmlarson@fosstodon.org avatar

@danzin @sigmavirus24 @glyph Maybe there's some misunderstanding, this might be referencing the specific version of mpdecimal? I think CPython still needs mpdecimal, we just upgraded to 4.0.0 and are making further updates easier by unvendoring: https://github.com/python/cpython/issues/115119

It's always fun to see the layers of history when looking at the Git blame of CPython.

Here's an Initial revision from 34 years ago, and GIL removal from 3 months ago.

Software security tends to operate on a high-level, above individual ecosystems. What should we take into account when attempting to improve the security of ecosystems?

I find the etiquette of Calendly (and other appointment booking things) really interesting

I've heard some people are offended by the suggestion that they use that to book a slot rather than doing a back-and-forth to find the right time for both parties

I see it as respectful of my time when someone suggests Calendly rather than having us back-and-forth over several cycles

I'd love to understand this dynamic more

sethmlarson,
@sethmlarson@fosstodon.org avatar

@simon I haven't experienced this sentiment (and I'm always happy when someone has a Calendly!)

My calendar is fairly wide-open but I still have one, I want people to pick a slot that works best for them without having to have them enumerate their calendar to me.
