The concept of "AI" seems to represent the last hope of a privileged class of people whose lives have not yet been upended by externalities beyond their control. Otherwise reasonable people are driven to place their faith in it that it could provide relief and salvation from any number of...things. Another solution looking for a use, but this one compels near religious zealotry. I can only conclude this is escapism from the crushing despair of the world today.

@xan it's true of every product that exists purely to prop up the tech sector and always will be

like cryptocurrency invented whole-cloth to justify the sale of additional computer power, because we had reached a point where investors started thinking moore's law wasn't a guarantee and markets wouldn't want, need, or demand additional compute power forever- rather, that they'd pivot to valuing power savings, which is hard to achieve and shrinks impacts the size and scale of the supply chain...
