I’ve seen people make jokes about jumping into a river or out of a window when they feel distressed, but one DC-based security robot appears to have interpreted this on a literal level.

… are you not? I think this writer should be drug-tested and sanity-checked, because life is fucking abysmal.

chuckles in GrapheneOS

(per-connection random MAC, for all networks, by default)

Don’t forget to disable wifi and bluetooth before approaching the store, as those give off unique identifiers too.

Just VPN to your home network. What are they going to do, block every IP but theirs?

wreckedcarzz,
@wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world avatar

Per-network, though, not per-connection.

Pedantic but

vpn free

Boy I hope not

Which is why we don’t buy those devices

wreckedcarzz,

It’s per-network, not per-connection. Though that option does exist but is hidden away under developer settings.

Apps have their uses, but yeah for me any ads at all = too many. I use RedReader for reddit and now Thunder for lemmy, I have Iceraven with uBO for browsing and I have a DNS-based blocker too, for non-browser ads.

I’m one of the few that uses foss for everything I can and also gives back to devs, either through contributions and bug reports or monthly monetary donations. Advertising as a funding source is so ‘ew’ to me.

releases A, holds Shift

wtf, fucking sign doesn’t know shit

wreckedcarzz,
@wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world avatar

Nah, word of mouth is powerful. I’ve been enjoying my time, and started to tell friends about it. Many are already bitching about reddit and their many poor decisions over the years, and at least in my social circle, others turn to me for what I use and recommend. I’m certain of course that there are many, many more like me.

It doesn’t need to be a landslide, it just needs visibility with trusted friends using it to grow organically and easily.

I don’t even understand, do they throw these thrones at each other, or what’s the rules here? If I nail a guy right in the balls, is that like 10x points or do a get a penalty?

Ding ding ding. I am moving to 100+ char passwords for sites that support it. There is absolutely no reason to ever have a maximum character limit for passwords, and it drives me insane that some sites still use asinine limits like 12 (!) character maximums.

I started with 20, then 40, and now 60 moving to 100+ or whatever the max is for websites. I have been hacked long ago and I’ve been the target of discrimination and personal attacks of many types before, so I’ve ratcheted up my security hard in the last decade.

And yet some people want to try both, and then they get yelled at on the internet for trying something new.

Never is a strong term; currently, in most cases. But another 5, 10, 20 years it might be completely different. If I can set up passwords that I don’t need to change until I’m dead*, vs scrambling because a new tactic has been found to crack passwords 50x as fast… why not go with the ‘once and done’ approach? Especially when it’s a slider inside a generator that takes a couple seconds to adjust.

*assuming no breaches or other situations yada yada some conditions may apply visit longasspasswords.netgovxyz for details
