The word for 'knife' in some languages. Interestingly, the Germanic word appears in Catalan, from Germanic languages of the early middle ages (Frankish?) - and has at some point been loaned into Basque as well.

I was watching "The Subtle Knife" when I made this - obviously, the name of "Mrs. Coulter" was no coincidence.

Cue puns about Latvian knives now.

@oysteib I've said this many times before, for different reasons, but... What's up with Portuguese? (The etymology doesn't seem to be in your legend.)

And now I have to deal with 600 internal legacy Illumina short RNA sequencing datasets.
I don't even remember where to start and have to whip the posters in 2 days 🤣
Let's just say that this is nearly as bad as an organic kale salad.
Which aligner I am supposed to use now? (I used to remember this stuff)

@ChristosArgyrop caveat: I never did much RNA-Seq myself. I think what folks used a few years ago was STAR: https://github.com/alexdobin/STAR

Please help me find more content for my feed. It's currently too depressing, and full of #abpoli and #uspolitics and global disaster doom and gloom. I like local content, and #bikes, #urbanism (less so the doom and gloom stuff), #travel, #families, #animals & #nature, and fun random stuff. Most of the podcasts etc that I followed on bird site haven't migrated. 😢

@i_understand @PedalHoppy @ECityMom @ClimateHubYYC Not to diminish gup.pe, but I get pretty much the same experience following a hash tag. People just have to remember to include the hashtag in their post and I relevant posts show up in my timeline.

@i_understand @PedalHoppy @ECityMom @ClimateHubYYC Thanks, I did not know that.

I scored ONE POINT!

(I never used Blockbuster. Indeed, I never rented a video. For most of the period when video rentals were a thing, I didn't own a TV, never mind a VCR.)

@cstross
Dang, 1 point; I've never rented from Blockbuster. Well, unless a sibling renting on your behalf counts.

Taking a break from reading this amazing book to return to refresher course , as some of the constructs and ideas to powercharge C are also applicable to perl. Gut feeling is that coding to leverage the C99+ features plays extremely well with the features introduced in perl v5.34 and above.

@ChristosArgyrop I love that book! It opened my eyes to a whole new world of programming in C.
