My impression is they're being disingenuous, for the reasons you say. They could easily support 3rd party apps but ban large-scale data mining. Saying "supporting these apps costs us money, so we need to charge" is a manipulative half-truth. Like Selig said, they've priced it not just at covering their costs but making a healthy profit.

It's not clear why they don't just serve ads in the API and require them to be displayed, or implement profit-sharing with 3rd party devs (as in, they pay reddit a portion of their income from ads/subscriptions). The only clear reasons would be for control and to pump up numbers for the IPO.

Because I have heard them use the word like that, in a semi-broken English way (not criticizing, I mean, I speak zero other languages at all besides really bad Spanish). As in "I am wanting a for girl for fuck' or something like that.

Are there any Reddit refugees spending more time on Lemmy than Reddit?

I am theoretically switching over from Reddit to Lemmy. Finding myself spending more time on Lemmy than on Reddit. Maybe it's because I am limited to using the desktop and can't aimlessly browse Reddit on my iPhone. Of late, the only subreddits I cared for were on sports and their matchday threads and r/watches. Some sort of profit sharing arrangement seems to be the trend in social media these days. YouTube has a setup like that of course... Instagram and TikTok both pay people (max of like 100 a month i think) and Twitter is planning to start.

It's unclear to me to what extent this actually happens, but some people say reddit mods get offers to promote or allow certain posts for thousands a month. It would make sense on subs that have a seriously large audience.

Yeah, tamale dough is masa (nixtamalized corn) while ravioli is typically wheat flour, as you describe. Noodles can be made out of corn or rice, too... they're not really that different than wheat noodles. I have Celiac so I have tried a lot of gluten free noodles made from alternative grains.

i feel somewhat ashamed that I have not drawn a distinction - a tamale/ravioli/dumpling is a stuffed noodle, which is way more 3d.
