For me it was Jeff Kinney. I was meeting a different author I love, but there wasn’t enough room downstairs and we had to go up. Turns out that’s exactly where Jeff Kinney works! He’s the author who got me into reading so I thought that was so cool
Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, but it was more of a brief wave from a few feet away than meeting them. Still, amazingly cool experience to be that close.
I was having a friendly discussion with someone this morning about PC and Laptops for work/education stuff, he suggested that I could use a chromebook for all this stuff and this would be a good idea and make things easier. I strongly disagreed with this, mainly because I hate laptops, the keyboard and touchpad make me angry and...
I have a laptop for work, it’s useful for that purpose because it’s portable. I’ve owned several personal laptops over the years and rarely used them because I just don’t need one. If I traveled more I’d consider buying one.
Never missed a flight, but my luggage once went to Manchester and I went to London. We were both supposed to go to London. I had just left my finacee in the US (we’re married now), I was jet-lagged, and just wanted to go home and be heartbroken, and Monarch Airlines sucked anyway. Either way, I think me blowing my stack at the baggage rep. was not one of my finer moments.
Got my luggage back a week later with a $25 check to apologize. Hmmph.
Last year I used a combination of r/hurricane, weather underground pro, and my weather radar pro. I am wanting to forgo Reddit for obvious reasons, and wondering if any one knows of any good fediverse sources, and or better apps. Also this is my first post after lurking a bit, and a few comments.
A butterfly effect is the phenomeon that a small change in initial conditions that leads to a significantly different result than if the initial conditions haven’t been changed. Have you personally witnessed such phenomeon?...
In 1998 my friend asked me to set up an IRC server for him. He needed it for his job and knew I had done it before so asked for a favor. An afternoon’s work. His boss was impressed, and offered me a job. My first IT job.
Hung around on that server to keep an eye on things until the customer could take over, then made friends so just made it my home server. Ended up meeting my wife on there a few months later. A year after that, I immigrated to the US. Used the experience gained from that job to get a career here. Still here 23 years later.
How is reddit post protest, did it really win over protesters? Did the ones who left make a dent? Or like all things before, did it ultimately do nothing?
Edge is an OK browser that’s rapidly being bogged down with bloatware, just like Chrome which it sought to destroy. I’ll keep using Firefox and hope the same thing never happens to it. At least they finally killed off IE.
This has been a sometimes fun, but most often infuriating discussion between my wife and I, as well as other family members and friends whenever we bring it up: which side of the bed is the front? Is it the foot end? The side where the heads are? Or are you a rebel and is it the side you get out of bed at?
Well the bit where the pillows go is the backboard, so the front would logically follow to be where your feet go. Now I’m curious what languages other than English have to say on the subject.
macOS is a great OS, and I’ve used it pretty extensively now. Every time I try to make it my primary OS I end up wanting to go back to Windows soon after. And this is from a die hard Linux advocate. Part of the issue is the cost and lack of easy upgrades for the hardware, the other is I just find macOS to be frustrating for anything but normal “user” stuff. So for me: Linux for servers and hobbyist stuff, macOS if no other option, Windows for just about everything else.
I've tried the web app, wefwef, Thunder, Lemming, Connect, Summit, Lemmur, Liftoff and Jerboa. Jerboa was the best so far but I'm using the 0.0.33 IzzyOnDroid version because of the issues with lemmy.world.
Lots of people at that time thought the Internet was a passing fad. Me, a computer expert (supposedly), though the iPad was a silly idea and nobody would want a less functional laptop. Ah well, we all make mistakes.
Let's see, the CEO completely ignored industry experts telling him the thing was unsafe and not suitable for the depths he was planning on going to. He then told them thanks, but I'm doing it anyway and safety is for wusses (I'm paraphrasing). I'd say it's a solid Yes they he qualifies.

With the number of people concerned about privacy, it is a wonder why chrome is even popular.
