I don’t imagine theres much room in the WA electorate to vote further to the ‘left’ than Labor. But still, a couple more Greens, or even Teals, could really help push the WA government faster down the path they’re already slow walking down....

We’ve had so long to future-proof our state, to invest in an economy of intellectual-based exports, or even some novel manufacturing… but no, the best we can still muster is digging up rocks and gas. And letting other people profit from it.

I can only hope we see some more disruptive protests at some point, because it’s hard to see Labor doing anything about the climate crisis. You’d think that their overwhelming majority at the state level would’ve shifted the overton window left but this feels like a pretty conservative Labor government.

Ehh that’s a very cynical and kinda misleading take of how it works. This may be generally true in the house of representatives but still 12% of the seats don’t end up funnelled to the two major parties. In the senate a quarter of senators aren’t affiliated with either major party and at the moment it requires Labor to collaborate to pass bills, so although we do have two major parties we are nowhere near being a two-party system.

I get that it makes sense to have laws to protect people against racially aggravated harassment, but this feels like a stretch and a huge waste of time and resources. That said, Sam Kerr is a role model and this kinda behaviour shouldn’t be seen as ‘based’ or anything imo.

It’s gonna take decades. Even then, in WA we’re so isolated, even if we have heaps of non-car transport infrastructure it’s tricky to see people weaning themselves off cars completely, because we have the Perth hills and the Southwest on our doorstep. Tricky to have a long weekend in Busselton without a car.

There’s this rising narrative going around that if you ask specifically for a CIS partner, you’re a transphobe. That could be true for some people but it’s not fundamentally related to bigotry. Moreover, this narrative, the “if you only want a CIS mate then that is prejudice” is trampling on one of the most important...

No mention of the rate? Or the rate in non-police officers? I’m seeing an increasing amount of articles quote raw numbers rather than anything statistically meaningful, I agree with the sentiment of the article but it’s veering towards rage-bait territory.

I think the only thing one can do is to scale back the doomscrolling and try and maintain some sort of hope that things will get better (and vote accordingly, of course!). Both reddit and lemmy have been incredibly depressing as of late.
