The bigger question is whether he's an ex-mo. Like, is the church disciplining this fellow by excommunication. Or standard sweep it under the rug/disfellowship protocol?
I'm outta the loop on why there's all these "rule" posts on the Fediverse. But there isn't an OutOfTheLoop magazine I can submit the question to. So, I am gonna try out this microblog thing. Anyone can fill me in?
I feel this in my bones as an anthropologist when it comes to semi-structured interviews, which frankly have very little to do with anthropological inquiry but have nonetheless become a rote methodology.
Curious to know, I’d heard “lemming” used in a semi derogatory way, since “a person who unthinkingly joins a mass movement, especially a headlong rush to destruction” is the dictionary definition. It seems to be the first thing to come to mind as to what you’d call a Lemmy user....
If we actually wanna support the essence of what we're engaging on, we shouldn't factionalize by user interface and should avoid names attached to Lemmy, Mastadon, or KBin. We should instead be Federates of the Fediverse.
I always thought tipping $1 a beer was the norm. Unfortunately, the waitress looked disappointed when I gave her $3 for three beers. Maybe it’s because it was table service at a touristy pub? What do you guys think?
I think tipping culture is going bonkers, and conversation about it has become really divisive. So, you won't find any consensus. But I can tell you what I'm doing:
I used to do 18% pretty much everywhere that asked. But because things have gotten crazy (way more businesses types now asking for tips, supposed minimum tip percentages rising, shady tip pooling practices, servers having to tip out other staff, etc.), I've changed my tune.
Default 15%, even if I have to tap several buttons to make that happen. If I can't input a 15% manually into a machine with relative ease (some machines make you choose default percentages or input a specific tip amount when you don't want to use the default options), then I can do 10% math in my head easily and that's what they get. If I am standing when I pay or if I pay before I get food/service, you getting 5% max.
I've realized that while my pay isn't indexed to inflation, tips are: as menu prices have risen, so have the tips. So, an 18% tip last year was less money than an 18% tip today. Hence why I have lowered my default to 15%. I'd be happy to return to a higher tip once my own wages catch up with inflation, but until then it won't happen. And with beer prices around the city jumping nearly $2 per pint from last year, the 20% "minimums" make no sense at all.
By focusing solely on China or Russia and other state actors, Canada is missing the potentially far more troubling forces that proved so disruptive during last year’s convoy protest, Susan Delacourt writes.
You're 100% right. In the case of China, it's the Chinese government interfering. In the case of American interest groups, they're just collections of people with a particular perspective.
That being said, we do let the American government and American state consorts have enormous influence over our policies. But it is viewed as collaboration, rather than interference. Mostly because we identify with America, both being liberal democratic states with subsequently similar ideology. We may disagree on particular policy, but we essential are disgareeing on how to best run capitalist liberal democracies. We don't disagree on the more foundational ideological terms.
What worries me is that we don't see this American collaboration and influence as highly problematic. It isn't problematic for the same reasons that Chinese interferences poses. But it is nonetheless problematic in more subtle ways. I think the source article tries too hard to make the two comparable, and don't think they are. But that doesn't diminish the concern we should have with it comes to the American influence.
This universe is so ripe for an open-source Elder Scrolls-esque game. Choose your "race", enter the post-Fire Nation war world where the Fire Nation colonists are getting kicked out from their occupied territories and turning into refugees. Xenophobia towards the fire Nation is rampant. Where the Earth kingdom is rebuilding and uncovering more heinous crimes the government committed. There's some subsequent political unrest and civilian movements. The political instability of the formation of the New Republic and founding of the new city. The Water Tribes seek to repopulate the south. Multi-national organizations form. Perhaps a new university that feels the need to locate and preserve precious mystical artefacts lest another war threaten them in the future. Archaeological digs to find the lost library are undertaken, spurred on by the reports of the Gaang. The fighting league starts up.
Meanwhile, you travel the world honing your skills, participating in discoveries, supporting refugees, playing a hand in political stabilization, witness the beginning of the industrial revolution, etc.
