I made an account at kbin.social and just went with it. It's all gonna be federated anyway (unless it gets defederated) and each day actually feels like it's improving.
I'm 25 and I don't have a drivers license. I mean, I've never really felt the need to go and get one. Public transport is usually the fastest option where I live, and it takes a lot less responsibility to use it....
I'm from the Philippines. My preferred method of public transit is booking a motorcycle ride because traffic can get so bad depending on the time of day. A 15m jeepney ride 8 years ago can take double or triple that time these days.
There's like an urge in my body to squeeze it from the bottom that feels efficient and tidy and it messes my mind up when I use a toothpaste that somebody has squeezed right in the middle. I wanna know people's stance on this, so what kinda squeezer are you?
I'm with you. Plus I really miss the pre-socmed days of the internet where it was just specialized forums. Being early at kbin kinda sorta maybe feels similar.
I'm thinking of making a monthly mixing contest over here. Not for competition but perhaps we can learn something from each other. Let me know what you think.
I'm mixing an intimate folk song and the vocals tend to go "out of bounds" on some parts. I thought a limiter would do the job but after trying out two (PSP Twin-L and FIRComp2) I wasn't satisfied. Worked too much on some parts when working just right where I originally wanted. Serial compression might work but brings up noise...
Been on kbin since the 11th and it feels like it's getting bigger everyday. Probably true, but I believe that's because of the federation part. I like it so far.
If you're already in the fediverse then you already probably have an idea of which sites there are. So personally I'd keep a few instances handy in mind so I can bring one up and at least "distribute the load" so to speak.
I still think Bonnie Raitt is underrated. Ever since the 70s and even up to the time she got more successful later on. My current listen is "Not The Only One"

Most things have been mentioned already. In terms of development time Lemmy is much older. I don't know who the main developer is over there so Kbin seems more focused at the moment, which is a good thing. In terms of userbase and instances Kbin is smaller.
I'm the same at 29, started back in November. Just walking on a treadmill. When it started to get too easy I put on a rucksack and some weights. It can be quite punishing if I'm feeling adventurous (10kg weight as a small guy) but I'm losing weight for the first time in years.
I haven't delved into Sonata Arctica yet. Care to recommend an album? I think I mostly lean towards thrashy-sounding power metal but it's time to expand.
The optimist outlook is that kbin is still using cloudflare, and from what I know still not fully federated. Kbin is just one part of the fediverse after all, and hopefully we'll be able to find communities with more users once everything's up and running as intended.
