JanoRis,

I'm still staying dark for the moment and waiting for my GDPR request first.
If i delete my account i will probably first use a shredder to remove everything from the site first.

Though i have been thinking:
It would be nice if there was one of these comment shredders, that instead edits all my posts to have max comment size.
Would that bloat up the required server space if enough people do this?
Maybe even have ChatGPT take my comments as an Input and bloat them up to max comment size while falsifying the original information

Dunno...I think that could be fun

gk99,

Just to be safe, I already took care of this on my (10 year) account in case reddit tries to brick these sorts of things. It's nice checking all my comment pages and seeing them all completely blank.

Not deleting my account though. Just like the content I've taken from them, that handle is mine, too.

JayCee,

I'm wondering if Reditt is just too big to beat. I am a member of a sub which has 3.9m members. The equivalent on here has 11 members.

The optimist outlook is that kbin is still using cloudflare, and from what I know still not fully federated. Kbin is just one part of the fediverse after all, and hopefully we'll be able to find communities with more users once everything's up and running as intended.

I'm not thinking of it in terms of beating them I just want a service where the number one goal is user experience not investor experience. But the growth needs to be organic or everyone will be turned off to these alternative when they falter under an unmanageable load, the current influx has already strained all of these services. So let's focus on building a great community and watch the organic growth bloom.

Edit: stained to strained

Brawndo,

I've been on reddit lurking since 2013, had an active account for nearly 6 years and was premium for half of it. I just canceled my subscription and haven't looked back. They can't behave like that and expect people to stay. I've heard some good things about kbin so I'm here to check it out!

aeternum,

Welcome!

blackgreen15,

It really was just walking dead for the past few years. Deleted mine today.

clobble_wobble,

I deleted my 10+ year old accounts a month or so back when Reddit had that data breach.

Kinda glad the API fuckery

  1. Validated my decision and
  2. Introduced me to some good alternatives.
Margo-goodlife,

What alternatives do you recommend? I'm missing the articles, interesting posts, discussion, discovering things that I wouldn't normally encounter. I've subscribed to a load of news sites but they're catering to my current taste and I want to learn outside my interests if you get me?

I feel like this place has the potential to be a perfect alternative for what Reddit gave us, we just need to put in the work to build it up.

charred,

just finished user Power delete suite to delete all my comments. and then deleted my account. 10 years & gone. Reddit was my only social media, and now its gone. im liking kbin so far. good luck!

I won't be deleting my account, but will definitely be taking a long break from there. It's really sad, as there is a huge amount of useful and important content and discussion on the platform, many years worth of hobbies, niche interests and valuable tidbits that just don't exist anywhere else.

All these niche interests will reborn from their ashes like a Phoenix from Arizona! IN THE FEDIVERSE! Serenity now.

serolrom,

I still cry on awe recalling the day I deleted my Facebook account.

HelixDab,

My 12yo account got banned; I'm not sure I can even go through and edit all my old comments to remove content anymore.

Me too; even with a permanent suspension you can still do this.

Wondering if these bans from nowhere are also IPO related

Your name is...your name is just the number 34. Idk why, but that tickles me.

A large part of me really does want to nuke my account, but it's still necessary for my one single private sub while we're all still in the process of moving to a different platform. That, and apparently I have been useful enough in my time that I still sometimes get notifications on years-old comments asking for help and clarification, and it's really the only thing keeping me from overwriting every comment I've ever made with gibberish. I hate spez but I love helping.

Margo-goodlife,

OK so I'm going to guess you like pitcher plants? I have a Nepenthes ventricosa which I think isn't very happy. The pitchers aren't forming but the leaves are nice and glossy so it seems half happy :/. There's a big vine that has old scrubby leaves on it which I'd like to cut off and the pot seems a bit small.

Basically I'm scared to mess with it as the last time I did I killed it and I'm usually talented with plants.

D:

It's an association I get more than either one of us would think, but it was meant to be a reference to a line from The Raven. I am repeatedly considering getting into them just so I have something to talk about with everyone who asks, but my apartment doesn't get sunlight and the only thing I've never killed are succulents. I am deeply sorry to be so out of my depth

Quite obviously, reddit can't be used as a resource for the known future, but I wonder if these guys can help you a lot more than I can. They have a nepenthes section a little ways down and seem shockingly active for a forum that's old enough to drive
