Hey folks, I stumbled upon a big issue with Lemmy and Kbin. You know how we used to search stuff on Google like 'why feet smell site:reddit.com'? Well, turns out I can't do that for Lemmy and Kbin... yet. Maybe the crawlers haven't caught up yet but I have a feeling it's due to the nature of the fediverse. I mean, I'm not even...
It's definitely a combo of the crawlers haven't caught up yet and that a lot of these sites have anti-bot protocols enabled to handle all the extra traffic. Just give it some time and I'm sure Google or whatever will start to index this place.
There was a gorgeous sunset outside that was hidden to the dark room dwellers.
Well there's Itch.io and GameJolt. Itch mostly has indie games. GameJolt is mostly fangames but there's a few indie games there too. I recall seeing another platform that offered DRM-free older games but I can't recall then name (Zoom?).
There's also katridge but I have no idea if that's DRM-free or not.
XaaS technology. Though I wouldn't even consider it an advancement. Also convergence becoming mainstream. I may not give a crap about Unix philosophy but in some instances they are correct.
Let me rephrase. I'm against taking previously paid applications and turning them into services, refusing to adhere to lifetime licenses and taking features out turning those behind paywalls. Filmora is an example of what I mean.
All for consumers specifically. I don't care about enterprises.
Eritrea has rejoined a regional East African bloc it left 16 years ago, its information minister said, in the country's latest move to rebuild ties with its neighbours.
Not really. I've seen instances on replies to people I follow but nothing major. I tend not to venture into political battlegrounds though so it is rare I see that stuff anyways.
Most of my subs have gone permanent. There's not really a reason for me to even use reddit much anyone sans advertising to whatever stragglers are left.
Google in general isn't that good of a search engine. I just use a combo of them now. I've heard good things about Kagi and Neeva and intend to start using those soon.
Reddit's one aspect of this but I've always wondered if there would be massive fallout and failure if Reddit, StackOverflow and StackExchange were to all go private at once. Would we see catastrophic infrastructure failures since lots of people rely on those.
Like most of Meta's recent projects I don't expect many to care for it, let alone for it to survive. Especially if it gets defed'd immediately (which I am fully expecting). Bluesky has a better shot than this.
Well for one I figure a lot of journalists and anti-musk cats are going to congregate there.
I've always treated social media as ephermeral. There will never be a permanent platform. We'll always be jumping to the next thing as another dies. Just a matter of how long i'll be here in this instance, 5 or 10 years. Least, that's the way I see it anyways. Maybe one of these platforms will stick.
Most of the Lemmy instances seem to require an email to sign up. That's fine, except most of the places you would go to sign up for email want you to... already have an email. And often a phone number. And almost always a first name, last name, and birthday....
I am a long-time user of LibreWolf, and I'm currently running Debian 11 "Bullseye". A new major version, Debian 12 "Bookworm", is due to be released on the 10th....
I'm sure there working on it. Is there that much difference between 12 and 11? I don't see why using the latest version via their tutorial wouldn't work.

Isn't it ironic.... that we all left reddit because 3rd party apps were being killed off, and came to a place where there are no 3rd party apps.
edited to meet rule #3!
GOG alternatives
I am curious to see if there are other digital distribution platforms similar to GOG which focus on DRM-free games.
What is a technological advancement today that you wish never existed?
For me, I would choose computer viruses.

What is the ugliest game that you have ever played and loved?
For me it has to be Toki. The characters were so weird and creepy, especially the bosses!
Have encountered racism, hate speech or homophobia on the fediverse yet?
If so, do you consistently report it and get the feeling that it gets dealt with? Of course there are instances dedicated solely to being human trash

In addition to asking devs of third-party apps for Reddit to make one for Lemmy, why wouldn't we ask them the same for kbin?

I am very interested to see how soon the artist meta will shift from fighting AI to embracing AI. At the end of the day, it's just another tool.
