We need devs of third-party apps for Reddit to make apps for kbin
In addition to asking devs of third-party apps for Reddit to make one for Lemmy, why wouldn't we ask them the same for kbin?

Jupeter, Relay for kbin/Lemmy would be awesome, I love that UI.
Monitor343, Hell yeah! I love Relay. I would buy a new version of Relay for Kbin in a heartbeat.
Midnitte, I've told the dev I'm willing to pay double.
Seems like he's leaning into a subscription model based on posts prior to the blackout...
Monitor343, I saw that. I wouldn't be opposed to that for Relay, but I wonder what the Reddit community is going to look like in the very near future. I wonder if it will be worth sticking around Reddit.
RosemarySolomon, A proxy is being worked on: https://github.com/derivator/tafkars
Eventually, I presume some kbin support wouldn't be out of the question especially if people submit PRs for it.
skellener, Until a nice native app emerges, I’ve found that I get a relatively good interface and speed using Firefox on iOS for KBIN. It was pretty crap in Safari and Chrome.
BarrierWithAshes, The RIF dev is currently working on an app for Tildes, last I checked.
Wondering if he would be interested in just open-sourcing it and letting someone else make a RIF-style Kbin app.
deaconblue, I like the idea of a kbin app, but I wonder if it's just because I'm so used to everything having its own app. I got the jerboa app and tried to use Lemmy. It was so busy that I couldn't get anything to work. So I ended up on kbin. I like it, at least so far. Accessing it through a browser works, but maybe it would be better to have an app tailored to it. Either way I don't think I'm going back to reddit.
Karlos_Cantana, If you're on Android, you can make a lite app with Hermit or Vivaldi.
Habnab, It's really not that simple lol.
EnglishMobster, The app devs have looked into it. Kbin's API is currently borked (returning errors on all instances), so for now they're focusing on Lemmy.
onceuponaban, RedReader's dev, while granted a reprieve from the APIcalypse due to his app handling accessibility better than the first party app ever did, does see the writing on the wall and is planning to expand his app to cover other networks, Lemmy, Tildes and Hacker News being on the list. Maybe kbin as well?
Sandro, I think many devs are interested but a little bit „scared“ to work on something for a few months when its future and success isn’t that clear yet.
Even adapting an app like Apollo would surely take the dev a few months (one or two at least i guess).
But let’s hope!
CoderKat, Yeah, why would anyone wanna spend the massive amount of time and effort to make an app if it could turn out that most people will just go back to reddit and the sites slowly die?
People here underestimate how hard it is to make a quality app.
Thekingoflorda, I would agree, but if you look at lemmy, there are already like 2 major apps and more on their way.
Inamin, rmayayo (boost dev) has gone quite quiet.. hopefully he's either a) taking a well deserved break or b) working on his next masterpiece. boost would fit in great with kbin, what with the post boosting.
Jaluvshuskies, I hope they're doing alright. All the 3rd party apps are phenomenal, but after trying them all, I sticked with boost in the end. Hands down one of my favorite apps. I showed them extra love for sure
stackPeek, Actually, the newest version of Boost has just been released, and it's sad cuz it's looking to be a REALLY good update.... and we only got about half a month until we can't really use it.
But yeah, it looks like the dev of Boost for Reddit has been silent about this whole thing. Maybe taking a (very much deserved) break.
AnonymousLlama, The dev seems really active on here and I've got a feeling over the next few weeks when he sorts out some of the backend challenges, he'll look into some of the UI/UX improvements. The site from what I can see runs off Laravel / PHP and it's on GitHub so people can submit PRs and help him out with work.
I'll be looking into it myself to see if we can get click to collapse nested comment threads working, along with some other UX aspects.
I think getting one of the app devs interested in kbin would be pretty handy though, but might be hard if the main dev is actively working and improving the site
Tetracyclic, Minor correction, Kbin is built on Symfony, rather than Laravel.
greeen_tomato, I was surprised by that. I thought Laravel is the cool kid on the block. :D
Maestro, It is, but Symfony is better suited to a complicated application like kbin.
greeen_tomato, Yeah.. I have/had a bad opinion about symfony, because we used it an old company. But that was mostly driven by young, inexperienced developers. In hindsight the problems we had were mostly because of junior developers trying to build tools instead of the framework.
theJWPHTER88, Symfony... hmmm, this backend foundational raft's quite interesting.
tal, kbin's Web UI is open-source.
Must of the functionality limitations could probably be addressed in the web UI as long as the developer is willing to accept PRs on his GitHub site, which I assume that he is. Some of the rest could be dealt with via stuff like userscripts.
I mean, that's not to say that there aren't potentially reasons to want an app, but if you improve the web UI, you improve all platforms. If you improve a client for just Android or just the Mac, you're only getting a return on that one platform.
rebul, The PWA works fine.
abff08f4813c, (edited ) If you can install it, sure.
Edit: 14 hours later and I can install it just fine. CloudFlare broke it but it seems that it's gone back to normal working status now that CloudFlare is off.
sgtlighttree, Yeah, I don't see an option for installing it in any mobile browser I've tried on Android, and IMO a PWA on desktop seems a bit redundant
abff08f4813c, (edited ) I wonder if it will start working once CloudFlare is off. Lighthouse reports it can't analyze the page and check for PWA compliance because of that. It works in iPhone though so maybe Safari is more lenient.
Edit: 13 hours shows that the answer is yes!
rebul, I'm using it with Brave. There was an additional step required, I think open a new window or something. Check google.
iamcharleybrowne, Lol. My first message when I jumped Reddit was to Christian. I asked him to give Apollo another chance at life via kbin. Hope he considers it.
Crapital-Beltway, I think there is one, if not more, already in the works.
