You purchase your own domain through a provider like Porkbun or Namecheap, something like clover333.com
Then you pay for a service like Fastmail (you need at least the Standard plan for custom domains). And you setup Fastmail to use your custom domain as the address. There are various ways to handle this, but if you just do the simple approach and use Fastmail as the nameserver it's pretty straightforward.
Data on search engine market share is available, but I wonder what that looks like for Lemmy users in particular, who I would assume lean more technical than the average user, so probably use DuckDuckGo and alternates more than Google....
...I trust the privacy guarantees even more since I’m a paying customer.
How effective is this stance? While using a service for free basically guarantees there are privacy concerns, paying doesn't directly provide any assurances. They can both charge you money and sell your data.
But Kagi seems pretty expensive, and too reliant on Bing/Google search pricing to be a long-term solution.
Significantly increased the experience awarded for completing Nightmare Dungeons.
Significantly increased the experience gained from killing monsters in Nightmare Dungeons.
Players can now teleport to their Nightmare Dungeon directly through the map.
Doesn't sound like it. Some people even admitted that straight up.
I don't see anywhere they are saying that they are getting rid of installed Windows, just providing a different avenue of Windows usage, something to compete with the ChromeOS type of uasge.

You did get screwed if you tried to play Skyrim on the PS3. The hardware limitations on the console caused obvious instability in the game that I don't think they ever fully resolved.
But I don't think most people played Skyrim on PS3 so they aren't going to have that same experience. I know I didn't.
Except they released the game, in "enhanced" version, on the Switch, which is just old android phone hardware from several years back.
Specifics matter in this case.
My quick review of specs shows the Switch having a 4GB of RAM to work with. Not a lot, but enough that even with the OS, you shouldn't run into too many problems.
The PS3 had 512MB of RAM. But actually, 256MB was dedicated to video, so it only had 256MB for the game itself. Oh, and the OS used a chunk of that. So, the PS3 has less than 256MB of RAM that is usable by the game. And that's where you are running into issues, especially in a game like Skyrim that is heavily reliant on memory for the amount of state the game tries to keep track of.
I wanted to get some tips on Rogue and hopefully some build ideas, and holy Tyrael, is that place a cesspool of toxicity. I think generally speaking game specific communities are toxic.
I wouldn't necessarily say that. What I would say is that online communities have a tendency to bias towards toxic without heavy-handed moderation.
The simple fact is that people who aren't toxic don't want to be around people who are. So if there aren't moderators keeping out the toxic people (or at least, stamping out the attitude specifically) then after a while the only people left in the community with be the toxic ones.
This has definitely gotten better in recent years. You can almost date games by whether they have subtitles by default or if they provide some prompted settings for that sort of thing on first boot of the game.
Well, they won't be able to get their news from "news outlets" specifically linked on Facebook. They will still be able to get their news from other sources on Facebook.
Not sure if that's actually an improvement though.
The Apple Pro Mouse remains the most beautiful mouse ever made. I miss when electronics had more personality. Now companies just slap gaudy RGB on everything and call it a day.
Ideally one that can use more than one disk so that i can expand it later when i can. Have some minimal experience with Synology since there's one at work and i have interacted with it a couple times and like the interface, but am not married to any brand as long as it works....
I ended up going with a smaller Synology as it was actually replacing a RaspberryPi + External drive setup that was failing.
At the end of the day, the Synology was much more expensive, but for me it was worth the trade-off to have a mostly plug and play setup. I can easily move files around in a GUI. I can setup torrents, even configure it to use a VPN and it all takes minutes instead of researching configurations and managing daemons and processes like I had to do previously.
Edit: Also, don't forget to take into account power consumption when reviewing options. There can be a big difference between running an old desktop 24/7 as a NAS versus a Raspberry Pi.
I don't really like Windows but it's for my gaming PC. My laptop does run linux. I don't know much of anything about 11 and whether it's better or not.
Those saying version X was great, are simply wearing those rose-tinted glasses. The perfect operating system does not exist, simply because us users are such a varied bunch. So catering to us all at once will create friction and issues.
The simple answer is, if you're going to stick with Windows rather than move to Linux, then upgrade.
This accurately summarizes my thoughts on the issue. If you want Windows, just go for 11.
Without the text of the email how does this news mean anything other than "one side of a legal battle believes they are in the right"?
And aside from the fact that I'm not sure how buying Activision would "eliminate" any gaming platform, how much does that differ from the stance any business has? Does anyone believe that Sony is not out to "eliminate" Microsoft, to borrow the term?
My perspective is that it's supposed to be part of the "who is the real enemy" angle that was a part of the later half of the game. There was this constant back and forth as to whether we should focus on Lilith vs Mephisto as the one to destroy. That process culminates in how the ending plays out.
This part is just a reminder to the player that Mephisto is still a force of evil that can't be ignored or underestimated.
Interested in seeing how other people approach their backlog. I’ve finally made a list of all the games I want to finish, and I’m forcing myself to play one of them a day for at least an hour....
I know others are saying that having a backlog means treating gaming like a job you need to do.
But for me, it's about reminding myself that I don't always need to buy interesting games just because they are on sale or because I think I want to play them in the future.
There was period of time years back when I was buying dozens of games each year and not even playing half of them. Even if I'm buying games on sale that was hundreds of dollars a year I was spending on stuff I wasn't using.
I only have a limited time these days to play games, so I have even more of a reason to check my purchases. And sometimes I'll check my backlog and notice a game that I actually do want to play (or even play again).
