The way I understand it, is that advertising money is not put into NSFW content on the site, so by making every big sub NSFW they are effectively punching reddit in the wallet and trying to make their IPO fail.
I think this video showcases an interesting aspect of gaming that I never really thought about before. In their case, they play more games for a shorter amount of time vs spending a large portion of their time in few games....
It varies wildly. I've got about 2000 into Path of Exile, a couple hundred into fallout 4, 100 or so into each Souls game, but I had literal years of play time put into WoW before I quit playing in Wrath.
I'm currently looking for a new job. Right now I'm making $16 an hour in Florida, USA, and I'd prefer to be making that or better at my next job, but I'm having trouble finding something that pays $16 or better and is also part time, as I'm going to school for the summer and fall semesters. Any recommendations on specific jobs...
The BuyItForLife subreddit is trying to figure out what to do with the changes hitting Reddit and some really interesting points about possible attempts to advertise products that aren't really BIFL. Would be great if we could encourage them to come here. Edit to add link that won't let Reddit track you:...
God damn, the replies in that thread are toxic af.
I'd love to see you all stay on kbin - it's less engagement for now, but it's at least more civil. That being said, y'all do what you think is right. Just keep in mind that this protest is just the dead canary in the coal mine for reddit.
I guess that is the silver-lining, we can weed out people that wouldn't be able to contribute anyway. It's just maddening that there are even people like that out there. I kind of gave up on helping people bridge the gap from reddit to here.
It must be a different experience on lemmy. On kbin I only need to click on a post and the magazine/community is listed in the sidebar - I only need to click the subscribe button.
I get that, and I'm sort of understanding - just frustrated and wanted to vent earlier...
There is a lot of tech jargon people are throwing around that is wholly unnecessary in the grand scheme of 'just sign up and participate'. People don't need to understand all the backend workings to just participate and I don't know why everyone is focusing so much on it.
The equivalent would be every user trying to understand the inner workings of reddit's website; the servers, the dns records, the load balancing, the network between each server. None of it is necessary to actually use the site.
I sort of assumed that inclusion of [rant] in the title, and the magazine that it was located in was a dead giveaway of what the content would include, but I see your point and will try to make titles more topical in the future.
That's a fair assessment, and I hadn't considered the anger from being a forced change. I have good reasons for seeking an alternative and thus invested in making the change. That may not be the case for most.
I've started more posts and added more comments through kbin in a week than I did in 12 years on reddit. The community is so much smaller and comments are actually read instead of lost in the sea of shitposting.
I read Leviathan's Wake last year and it was really good. They really undersold Fred Johnson in the TV show, he's a badass. I've only read about half of Calaban's War and then set it down for some reason or another, and never went back to it. I should really finish that while I'm waiting on my Libby holds to be released.

[rant] Why is this so hard for people?
Can I just rant a little to you all?...
I've felt more compelled to contribute to the "Fediverse" than I ever did on Reddit.
Over the last week or so I have noticed that I have a lot more fun engaging in discussions on here as opposed to reddit....
