“We [the Bank] laid out in advance of Brexit that this will be a negative supply shock for a period of time and the consequence of that will be a weaker pound, higher inflation and it will end weaker growth,” he told The Daily Telegraph. “And the central bank will need to lean against that now that’s exactly what’s...
This might be an unpopular opinion, but karma/reputation points. It only encourages hivemind and echo chambers. I'm ok with thread-specific points so that content can be ranked, but that's it.
I decided to take a peek at Reddit to see what kind of activity is happening, a good handful of the subreddits I am subscribed to are still super active with posts and commenters....
/u/porn was active here briefly, make a load of communitiess like /c/Boobs and has since not been on, leaving those communities unmoderated. I've messaged them about being added to some of them (like they offered), but no reply....
I'm keeping my feet in two shoes for now, at least until they kill old.reddit for good - already I won't use it on mobile as Apollo will die soon.
One thing is for sure - I used to do efforts to produce good quality posts or comments on Reddit and help/support the communities/subs I was part of, but now I'm reluctant to do so and relinquish such IP to Reddit.
I'll be read-only there and contribute here in kbin.social and the fediverse as it grows.
They are two different softwares that provide a different user experience. Example of softwares: kbin, lemmy, mastodon.
Each software is deployed in multiple instances. For example: lemmy.ml, lemmy.world, kbin.social, mastodon.uno.
Each instance is, or can be, federated through a protocol called ActivityPub. In a nutshell, it simply means that the content produced on one instance of a software can (mark my words, "can") be propagated across the others (+).
All instances of all softwares are part of the fediverse.
Why "can" and not "is"? Because right now, the distribution of content across instances is not completely achieved: not all instances receive content from all others. Because of performance issues, time or simply choice, some of them are isolated or receive partial/curated content. This is the case of kbin.social where you are right now.
So the answer to your question:
Is it possible to see Lemmy posts on here?
is: yes, but for now (and depending on the instance admin's decisions), only some of them.
(+): if you want a further analogy from the past, it is more or less how newsservers worked during the USENET heyday times.
The branding for kbin is perfect for capturing the reddit migrators. The biggest friction point for the Fediverse is choosing an instance. If I want to join Lemmy, googling Lemmy takes me to a landing page with no join button, telling me to go to these other sites. Some of these sites even actively discourage signups, creating...
For what I can see so far, I'm perfectly happy with kbin.social (the instance)-specific content. I agree with you that federation can wait, although it's just my personal opinion. I daresay that as kbin.social grows, there might be no need for federation at all.
Here there is a good interface, good content, my needs, honestly, are already met.
Not really. I've migrated across so many sites and forums, adopting one more won't change much. A bit miffed about a lot of good content I have brought there and now will be lost. Anyway, not a biggie.
Hey, once again, I welcome the newcomers. It's great to see new faces here :) It seems that we've managed to resolve the server issue. Unfortunately, I had to temporarily disable certain features, such as content auto-refresh. It will be restored at the beginning of next week after the infrastructure change, so you'll get to...
Kbin è ancora in una fase acerba, ma sta mostrando di essere un software molto promettente: non è solo un aggregatore di notizie, ma è un sistema completo per vivere il Fediverso. Complimenti a @ernest per l'ottimo lavoro!...
‘We told you so’: Brexit to blame for soaring inflation, former Bank of England boss (web.archive.org)

What Reddit features do you *not* want kbin to have?
in what ways do you think kbin should strive to be different from Reddit?
how many of you have genuinely ditched reddit?
due to the rolling blackout... I think it's had its effect....

The Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Sweden may be shorter than in previous years.
Took a peek on Reddit, it really boggles my mind how oblivious and obedient people are.

Unmoderated communities

If brands were brutally honest. What brand would have what slogan?
Just wondering...
It's okay to stay small
Hello everyone. I hope you're doing well today....
A lot subreddits end their blackout tomorrow. Will you go back to Reddit, or continue with kbin and the Fediverse?
I haven't used Reddit at all since the blackout began. Even if they change course, the Fediverse is growing on me, and I think I'll stay here....
Federation status: ON
Seems like the federation was turned on not long ago. It's very exciting to be part of kbin's growth!

Aaand... We have our first spam/bot!
Don't really know what the right way to call it is, but someone/some bot is spamming this post everywhere, even in the comments sections:...
for the Reddit refugees, do you also feel a bit heartbroken?
For me it feels like breaking up with someone after many years. At the same time, I feel a bit dirty mentioning the name in the post title.
