Apps are always nice, but lots of mobile websites, including the kbin one, are entirely functional as an app. In your browser you can just make a shortcut to them, and they'll appear on your home screen and act as an app....
Interesting thing I've noticed on kbin is that itseems to say it was created at that moment and it always says earnest is the owner and only mod. I'm assuming this is just work in progress and will be fixed but it's kinda weird.
Because the purpose was to see it in person. If they wanted to see footage of it they could do that from home but there' s definitely something for seeing things with your own eyes.
I'm completely oboard with what they wanted to do since cameras never do a sight justice. They just did it in a really sketchy way. Of course I'm also cool with people doing sketchy things but it sure seems this was being done as a business thing with customers and without proofing it multiple times. And honestly this should've been just an ROV with passenger capsule and probably tethered.
Honestly I'm kinda interested in seeing how long everyone behaves. File owner can always keep a backup of the file and change permission and restore if people act a fool.
There are other instances like kilioa.org andothers I can't remember but kbin.social is absolutely the 'flagship' so to speak with over 40k users. They are trying to encourage more to go to the others.
I got on kbin.social since I didn't know a ton about all this and figured things would go easier on the 'main' instance.

Get a lawn mower and if possible a weed-eater. You gotta quote by house based on lot size and amount of trees and decorations etc. to now around but for a small residential lot with few obstacles mowed and edged you can easily get $25 in a cheaper area. Put $5 back into fuel and maintenance and you got $20 profit for probably 30 minutes of work. 10 of those is $200 which can get a cheap computer, occasionally you can find good deals at pawn shops. 15 more lawns and you got $300 which gives you plenty of options for printers.
Keep doing it and eventually you can upgrade to a riding mower and do more, larger lawns. If you can get any commercial properties you can get more like $75-150 for an hour of work.

I'm seeing the federated content, but it's hard to tell where the content came from. Currently, the only reliable way to see the source is by reading the URL when you're viewing a thread. It doesn't work well on mobile though and it doesn't work for the feed....
Also, once in a thread, the magazine is not obvious. On the actual feed it says "by x in y" but in the thread it's not there.
I personally think in both places it should say: "by user in magazine on (not sure what the word here is but kbin, lemmy, beehaw, mastadon etc.)
Edit:at least on mobile that's what I'm seeing, although I just realized it does show it at the bottom but I still think having just the little not I mentioned at the top would be nice.
