I love every part of this @Shepherd and I love that you asked this @minnieo. I needed this from you both... To know I'm not alone here.
I've been leaning into that chaos more and realizing that hey, so what if I'm painting my basement ceiling at 2am? I'm getting something done, no one's getting hurt, and I'm off tomorrow.
I'm feeling less stress because I'm not trying to force myself into the structure of how I'm "supposed" to be doing things
Tbh, this has been on my mind for the past two days, so I hope you guys don't mind if I unload it here. I tend to obsess and I figure if no one cares, then at least I can get it out of my head instead of thinking about it all the time. Also sorry for the length, I promise I have a doctor's note....
I agree with you 100%. I'm interacting and contributing more on here in the last three days than over a decade on Reddit. I like that I can have a conversation with people here instead of a hive mind. I feel like I'm sitting in a comfortable chair drinking a coffee on here, actually enjoying content as it trickles in. Unlike what I was doing on Reddit which was more like slamming a monster while driving.
And the avatars! I forgot what it was like to recognize someone by their avatar.
This slower early internet feel has really been comforting in an honestly hectic point in my life. Regardless of what happens after the 14th or 30th or whatever, I'm staying here.
Yeah, I do too. I don't know what it's called exactly, but on Firefox (and I think Chrome and Safari?) if you go to the Kbin tab and hit the three dots in the upper right, you can "add to home screen". That puts a dedicated "app" to that tab without it showing up in your browser app.
It works just fine for me while an actual app developes. I'm actually kind of excited to see the evolution!
I think the biggest thing we need to figure out is how to make it sound easier than people say it is. People get too hung up on the technicalities of how the fediverse works, and they never try it out and see that it isn't as confusing as it sounds. If we could write up a simple blurb to help promote kbin to subreddit moderators...
Jumping back to what you said about communities and magazines having differences, I think you helped me understand something that's been mildly confusing.
Is it safe to say that communities are equivalent to subreddits, whereas magazines are subreddits with a group chat (called microblogs that are what a "post" contributes to)?
I'm quite new to the fediverse, and noticed that on kbin you can actually see who downvoted a post or a a comment (and not only your own posts and comments), by clicking on the "activity" button....
Maybe a bit of accountability isn't a bad thing though. It might make the downvote more of an actual "this does not contribute" instead of a "I disagree". Unless it's on /m/unpopularopinions! (Did I do that right?) I do like that down votes are significantly less common so far.
I find that on mobile, I'll come across something I've accidentally down voted since the buttons are on the right now! I can't seem to find a list of what I've downvoted, though. I'd like to make sure I cleaned up after my fat right thumb!
Definitely slow, but I kinda like it (for now). I feel like I'm paying attention to what I'm doing here instead of just doom scrolling and time sinking.
What if they're doing this, letting us all get riled up, and then after the black out they go "ok ok, we get it. We'll reduce the cost down to insert still high but irritatingly doable number" and that was the plan all along. That they started outrageously high so they can land where they actually expected to be. A bunch of users go back grumbling but feeling like they still won, yet we got 4d cheesed.
It is bitter sweet, but I am excited to a new start in a much smaller (dare I say tighter?) community.
The short time I've spent here so far has been relaxing in a way. I don't feel rushed to get to the next post. The clunkiness on mobile reminds me of forums back in the early 2000s. I'm sure the nostalgia will wear off, but at this very hectic point in my life, it's nice to slow down for a change.

Hi all, I'm Rexxiter and looking for a new internet home!
With some bad ADHD, my hyper fixations take me all over the place. Seriously, my house is filled with unfinished projects and hobbies. Consistently though, I love dank memes, video games, MTG, 40k, cheesecake, music (rock, techno, metal), and having plans cancelled.
Praise Gork someone made this already! I was worried it would take some time before I saw any 40k content. I'm inspired to paint some minis! I do have one mildly important, yet fairly urgent question for the community first:
Remember friends (sopuli.xyz)
The last playlist you'll ever need (lemmy.ca)
Anon may have depression (lemmy.world)
Stephen King wrote a whole ass book about this. (lemmy.world)
It's hard to explain (i.postimg.cc)
When you joined the DRG Lemmy community early and get to watch it grow (lemmy.world)
[F20] I have adhd and I pick up and drop hobbies weekly to monthly. For this reason, I cannot find a career path I am actually interested in. How can I pick a career path??
I need major help with this. I am stagnating in life, I don't know where to go next due to this issue....
How many major historical events has it been now?

How can we smooth out the migration and help promote kbin/lemmy to subreddits and redditors?
I think the biggest thing we need to figure out is how to make it sound easier than people say it is. You can see who downvoted a post or a comment. How does this translate to other fediverse instances, such as Mastodon?
I'm quite new to the fediverse, and noticed that on kbin you can actually see who downvoted a post or a a comment (and not only your own posts and comments), by clicking on the "activity" button....
