New and need help figuring out this site.

I am new here (kbin, but I guess this might post to other websites as well??) and am trying to understand how this place is similar and different from reddit. Is there a good overview somewhere? I already accidentally spammed this question three times as a microblog, whatever that is, and am trying to figure out how to actually...

atypicaloddity,

Haha well there's always lemmy. And once this site gets federation up and running you'd still be able to interact with kbin from lemmy. Pick an instance or instances you like the interface for; going to lemmy doesn't really mean leaving kbin, after all!

atypicaloddity,

That's right.

So generally no you wouldn't need to create a lemmy account to interact with lemmy. For instance, I have an account on fedia.io (which is a kbin instance like this one) which I use to interact with lemmy (for example: https://fedia.io/m/lemmyworld@lemmy.world is a view of the lemmyworld community on lemmy.world).

You could do the same thing from kbin.social, but federation is borked right now due to load/CloudFlare. So I'd recommend making an account on lemmy somewhere while things here get sorted out, and eventually you can just choose the site with the interface you prefer, like moving from Hotmail to Gmail.

If he had given them back after the March 11th subpoena, he would have walked away with a finger wag. He didn’t- whether that’s hubris, profit, or whatever.

We do know he retained top secret documents and left them without security. He conspired with others to evade detection. He knowingly thwarted the FBI and others from acquiring the documents. He’s a

lmao of course

Asta only really felt stronger when I got her eidolons. Only her ultimate/talent traces affect her buffing ability, but without eidolons she's so skill point hungry just trying to keep her buff up.

I don't see nearly enough people talking about the staggering cost to the US and allies as a result of The Former Guy's theft.

Politics is one thing, but in the Intelligence and Counterintelligence communities, there are protocols. And one protocol you can take to the bank: When a man who is known to have back channel connections to literally every one of our enemies steals a trove of classified documents, you treat every single one of them as if they are now owned by our enemies.

Let the gravity of that sink in. Every single agent mentioned is now compromised. Every agent alluded to is compromised. Every combat plan is now available for all our enemies to develop countermeasures for. Every secret plan to develop intelligence on our enemies is now a dead end.

There were nuclear secrets in there.

How do you begin to calculate the impact and cost of the enemy knowing our nuclear secrets, including potentially our plans if Putin were to launch a limited nuclear strike?

We will never know the cost of it, because it's all SUPPOSED TO BE SECRET TO PROTECT US FROM OUR ENEMIES. But however much you think it cost, it was probably more.

The Defense Department and Intelligence Community don't have the luxury of hoping he didn't make the sales we all know he made.

They have to assume he sold all of it. Whether it's ever proven or not.

This is one of the worst crimes ever committed by a US citizen against the US.

Rob was a little too human, really. Too many vices, too dumb, too sure if himself, he really was the worst aspects of humanity personified. I've always hated how leaders are chosen for their relatability instead of their competence. Being smart and capable should be an asset, not a liability...

I'm pretty sure that the difference is that I'm not embedded in any communities that primarily use reddit and am not a reddit user, but I just think it's interesting that when musk sharply accelerated twitter's multi-year long nose dive, I saw a lot of posts that basically amount to twitter being too big to fail and being salty about migrating -- I haven't seen any of that about reddit so far?

atypicaloddity,

@aeva it's funny -- one of the key parts of the Digg exodus to Reddit was Digg's hard push towards power users. They wanted Digg to be a place where power users & orgs controlled what was popular, while Reddit was more community-focused. The fediverse is just the continuation of that trend towards user-owned spaces. Tiktok is the other end of the spectrum.

I think I've wrapped my head around the fediverse, but connecting to other services is surprisingly obtuse.

atypicaloddity,

@CynAq thanks for the info
