@blobcat@kbin.social

hey, follow me at @blobcat (and the accounts below) in case kbin.social temporarily goes down

blobcat but on kbin
My other (main) accounts: @meow (Akkoma) @blobcat (Calckey)

MishaMouse, to chat
MishaMouse avatar

so i have a stupid question. how do y’all pronounce it:

kay-bin? kay-bee-eye-en? kəbin?

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

@MishaMouse kəbin!

Boosts used to be in the place of upvotes, now they are separate. For example, upvoting on Kbin acts as favoriting/liking on Mastodon, and boosting on Kbin acts as boosting on Mastodon.

blobcat,

Then maybe an example with Twitter? Not sure how to explain it without using an example. Upvoting is like liking a tweet, boosting is like retweeting a tweet. I don't know how boosts are displayed on Kbin though

When you click the "+" at the top, you'll have it. Link/article/photo/video counts as a thread, post counts as a microblog.

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

Honestly, I am still not entirely sure. I guess they are simpler in build? Threads have a title and a body, microblog only has a body.

No, blocking every possible instance is impossible. Even if they blocked the top 100 instances, there are still thousands of other that you can access, and then use them to access content from the top 100 that got blocked.

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

Kind of, any type of interaction between instances (even for example, if someone on instance A boosts a post by someone on instance B, and someone on instance C follows the person on instance A (or instance A is already federated with). Then boom, both instances now federate with each other)

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

I guess by following @chat, doesn't seem to work currently (for me it's still on "requesting", might just be federation delay or issues)

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

Yes they are all separate, different entities, if you had a "news" community on lemmy.ml and "news" magazine on kbin.social, they would both act separately as @.news@lemmy.ml and @.news@kbin.social

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

Yes, of course without the dot lol

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

Nooo, I added it so it doesn't automatically shorten like this: @news

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

I wish it had graphs (user growth, etc.) for software type, instead of them being instance/server-specific

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

Oh sorry, forgot you are using a different extension. That's how it works on Stylus, I am not sure how it works on Cascadea since I don't use Safari or own a Mac.

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

released them with the 0.0.5 version, you can now check if you have them or find if there's an option to update the theme in the extension.

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

Sorry, I don't think it's possible with a userstyle :(
Someone can probably do that with a userscript, but that's completely out of scope for me.

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

I think it's most definitely the equivalent of "rising", just doesn't work exactly the same

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

Sorry, no idea. Maybe try Cascadea? I don't use Safari but someone else in the thread used it and seems to worked.

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

It fixes itself when you click "more", no idea what is causing it but I wll look into it.

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

It works great! You should make a post about it, someone made /m/kbinStyles for kbin-specific userstyles and userscripts

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

@Habnab made a userscript for reply collapsing https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/468449-kbin-collapsible-comments
You can hide avatars of others here:

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

Yes, you can add (preferably to a new userstyle to not break updates, you can create them by clicking "Write style for: kbin.social/this URL" in the extension popup) ".kbin-container { max-width: none; }" to stretch everything.

blobcat,
blobcat avatar

It hides child comments for me, must be some kind of issue from your side

I would say sponsorships and on-website advertistments are very different from each other. Sponsorships are agreed on by both sides and made together, website advertisements are just random banners that show up everywhere.
