Artemis private beta rollouts have begun!

Hi there, the Artemis private beta rollout has just started! @hariette will be emailing 50 signup sheet users, while @lilkev will be adding 50 users from Artemis Discord. The order will be based on the submissions to the private beta signup form, as well as general activity within the Artemis community....

To everyone who thinks this Tweet is in reply to the shitstorm over the past 24 hours: it isn't. Check the date.

OC Unlike previous attempts at trying reddit alternatives (like Voat), kbin and much of the lemmyverse doesn’t seem to be plagued with extreme far right buffoonery.

It’s one thing to have differing views, but I’ve seen enough attempted reddit migrations to be relieved that the popular communities in the fediverse so far haven’t been about crazy racist stuff or other extreme right bullshit....

curiosityLynx,

I'd also like to point out userscripts like the KBin Enhancement Script on greasyfork for collapsing comment threads and showing a user's home instance.

OC My bookmarklet to turn any kbin/lemmy community page into the version at your local instance

I know there have been a few of these posted recently, but I modified a few of the ones I found to add one additional feature: If the page you are on is already the remote version, but for the wrong local instance, to still update that to your preferred local instance....

Best places to get human reviews/recommendations outside of reddit?

Often times when duckduckgoing (is that the right term for that) advice for products, I use the !ddgr key to directly search reddit for advice. But in a post-blackout world, I need to do this a lot less. So I want to know what the best places are to get reviews and advice for products that are human and not top 10 listicals.

Pbody,

Will this app be compatible with kbin.social accounts? I've tried to sign in and it's throwing a whole page of an error message.

Kbin and Lemmy should come to a consensus on how to name stuff

Is there really a reason, for example, for there to be the distinction of "magazine" and "community"? When you're federating, the same features should be called the same, if close enough. That way everyone can talk with everyone about stuff and we all immediately understand each other....

Not really. A magazine is a collection of articles that all are about a certain topic. It is not that hard of a concept to grasp

Plus: The polish dev called his platform kbin = karabin = rifle, the contents of a rifle are stored in a magazyn = magazine. I actually would have loved if the dev had called threads "bullets" / pocisk to keep going with the theme.

EDIT: this info might be wrong, as @minnieo pointed out. kbin is just a reference to the linux sbin folder.

I am more confused with the upvote and down vote buttons on kbin: the upvote is actually favorite, the equivalent to reddits upvote is boost, the downvote seems not to have a real function besides counting the number.

/kbin server update - or how the server didn't blow up

Currently, on the main instance, people have created 40191 accounts (+214 marked as deleted). I don't know how many are active because I don't monitor it, but once again, I greet all of you here :) In recent days, the traffic on the website has been overwhelming. It's definitely too much for the basic docker-compose setup,...
