A lot of great games have already been mentioned. Here are some options that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet:
Assault Android Cactus - twin stick shooter (to access the start menu, you must be inside of a stage, not in the map)
Jamestown - bullet hell (get original game, Jamestown+ does not work on Steam Deck)
Broforce - 2D side scrolling action game (there's a free version, Expendabros, that you can try out)
Gauntlet - dungeon crawler
Guns, Gore & Cannoli - side-scrolling shooter (it plays on Steam Deck, but throws an error when you exit, so you might have to close it directly on the Steam Deck or mess with compatibility options, I'm not sure)
Hammer Watch - dungeon crawler (need to grab a community controller layout - there is one specifically for co-op)
Monaco - stealth co-op heist
Human Fall Flat - physics puzzle adventure
Wizard of Legend - roguelike
Divinity Original Sin - turn based rpg (might want to check out the second entry as it is supposed to be even better)
These games are in my backlog and verified on Steam Deck, but I haven't played them yet:
I think a big help will be creating a streamlined sign-up process in the apps themselves. Menus to pick a server and create an account. Maybe tell the user which servers are biggest/ask if they wanna browse servers by specific content leanings. That way it’s not intimidating. I’m a tech guy and even I was a bit perplexed in the beginning and that will keep anyone with a non-technical background away: we tech nerds forget that things not “just working” isn’t a feature in the eyes of a majority of people. (For better or for worse.)
These are actually pretty cute, but again with the fucking app and online connection. I'd never have one of these in my house, let alone give one to my kids to play with unless I've disabled any network connectivity (but the simplest solution would be to just not buy one.)
I gave it a try the other day and really enjoyed it! Really nice cartoon art style / setting. The above-ground portion of the game feels like a solid clone of the Anno series games. Then below ground adds a fun twist of exploration / resource gathering into the mix....
Yeah, it's a LOT of fun. I always liked the Steamworld style for games. And I enjoy that they always try something new.
It has a great feel, the art is great. Apparently the demo ends before you get to the tower defense type mode. But I think they nailed the Anno feel while keeping it less complex and more interesting for me.

Quick reminder that these honeybee hives are not the natural local pollinators in north america. You can support pollination by making an environment friendly for your local pollinators. Plant bee friendly wildflowers. In my area mason bees are local and popular. They don't make honey but they do keep the veggies and fruits going.
Of course I don't want honeybee hives to collapse, but don't get the impression that they are the only pollinators.
I think it's great that so many people want to build and grow Lemmy, but why are we doing it by copying over Reddit content? It didn't seem as bad when it was funny pics or memes or whatever, but now I'm seeing discussion threads, which doesn't make sense to me....
Apps are always nice, but lots of mobile websites, including the kbin one, are entirely functional as an app. In your browser you can just make a shortcut to them, and they'll appear on your home screen and act as an app....

I think critiques are pretty helpful in the early stages of growth. There's several little UI/UX tweaks we can do to make these places feel more inviting.
That's an option on kbin.social. I'm not sure if it's the same for all kbins, still not %100 on how well this works. It was actually on by default and it took me rooting around in the settings to find there were avatars at all
Well, I'm stretching the truth just a little here. It has been reported that they're censoring any links or mentions of the Fediverse (just like Twitter did with Mastodon), but they are engaging in gaslighting about the protests.
Most recently the subs that voted to become NSFW in protest marked themselves as such (thus self-filtering for anyone not wanting to see NSFW content), however the admins removed that designation from those subs... without removing the NSFW content first! They then sent the mods of those subs threatening messages about how the mods showed NSFW content to everyone without the proper filters in place!

For my first post on Lemmy, I present the last post I made on Reddit 11 years ago. Thank you to everyone that has made the fediverse happen.
