The police didn't cause the chase. They participated in it, of course but I don't think it's reasonable to hold them responsible for the chase happening in the first place. The drug dealer(s?) could have stayed put.

eta: I am by no means a police apologist or a "back the blue" type, either. There is plenty wrong with how police do the job they have but this isn't that

I would get bored of a D&D session that started the exact same way every time I fucked up and died though. I'm not great at these games and I am embarrassed to say I was killed more than once on my first playthrough before even leaving the crash site.
Hoping mods or expansions (which seem unlikely) open the world up a lot more and allow for other starting scenarios.

So glad that stupid meme-of-the-week trends are finding their way over here from Reddit, too. I just love reading 50+ instances of the same unfunny joke in a row.

How often have games made you do a double take in real life? (i.imgur.com)

Maybe you see a plant you have to collect in game or a rock wall that looks different. What items have you caught out of the corner of your eye that you realized was just your brain so focused on looking for things in a game that you saw it IRL and made you double take?

January 4, 2012 -had been playing skyrim like I needed the overtime for just about 2 weeks. Off on a ski trip, and someone was seated nearby, but facing away. My first thought was how I could pickpocket them...

r/residency helped me a lot just by venting and commiserating. I'm hoping that m/residency can fill that role here

Commenting so I can find this easier later after work. I haven't found a "save" function on kbin yet.

happyspark,
happyspark avatar

So no real insight into what these hidden functions found in the javascript object do, huh?
I barely understand this article -I get there is a hidden browser, but I don't get what reasons there are for it, nor why I should be alarmed other than, you know, a hidden browser with unclear javascript objects, but that's just fear of the unknown. Sometimes fear of the unknown is justifiable, and given googles (capitalists) track record of late, it's probably justifiable here, too. But sometimes it's just fear for fear's sake which is not a good way to live life...

More reason to use firefox or other browsers. Maybe if I knew more Computer science I'd be more into linux too

work!
then groceries!
then ... ?

happyspark,
happyspark avatar

No I typically have Sa/Su weekends, but we like to get groceries out of the way on Friday evening if we can so we don't have to on the actual weekend. Also, our grocery store has an associated gas station with a 10 cents/gallon discount for every 100 "points" you accrue using your (their) shopper's card/ID (which is usually 1 point for every 10 bucks spent, but can vary by product or by special promotion), and Fridays are usually 4 or 5x fuel points.

edit: Re-reading the OP, I realize you asked about WEEKEND plans. I saw Happy Friday and laid out my Friday plans. Reading comprehension for the win! Uh only plans are to check out a homebrew store with a friend and maybe cobble together a homemade kombucha recipe.

happyspark,
happyspark avatar

So it's my friend who's more into kombucha.

I recently started homebrewing beer with pretty good results so far. I am using "brew kits" that contain malt extract, as opposed to malted grains themselves. Big difference is the extract is like a powder or a syrup (dry vs liquid malt extracts) that essentially dissolve into the water, rather than steeping malted grains like tea and removing them later. I think the malt extract method is a little easier and less messy, but I've never done the grain method.

My friend loved the beers I've made so far, and wondered aloud about making his own kombucha, so we're gonna go look at the store and see what's available. Maybe I'll try some kombucha over the weekend, too, so I know what I'm getting into if we do this.

happyspark,
happyspark avatar

Yeah the kit makes it a lot easier -it can be a little expensive to start though, getting all the equipment together. But I got all new stuff rather than look around for gear other people were getting rid of. The process is basically a month long per 5-gallon batch, at least for me so far. Most of the work happens on 2 days about 2 weeks apart.

Day 1 is brew day, heating the water, adding the malt, boiling, adding hops, cooling, transferring into a jug , and adding the yeast. There's a bit more to it but that's the gist. Then you set it somewhere cool and dry to ferment for about 2 weeks.

Day 2 (day 14) is bottling day. I'll add some priming sugar to the beer so the yeast has food to ferment in the bottles and create the CO2 you want in the bottle (the CO2 from the first fermentation stage has escaped by now). THen you put the bottles somewhere cool and dry to bottle condition for another 2 weeks. Then you have the most time intensive 2 cases of beer you've ever enjoyed.

Different styles will come out of different recipes -different malts, different amounts and types of hops etc. The time is roughly the same for each.

We'll see about the kombucha!

I'd argue it's actually "most places" rather than "many". It's not so obvious in day-to-day life but like if I had to take an ambulance tonight, me and my estate would be on the hook for the bill, but a billionaire would not be.

happyspark,
happyspark avatar

Does it have a local co-op mode? Like can my SO and I play on the same machine at the same time if we have appropriate controls? Or would we need to get 2 copies and play on our respective machines together?

same -I even removed the bookmark from firefox. used to be the first one on the right, now it's my email or something.
Still trying to figure out if I want to lemmy or kbin.
Lemmy seems more popular, but the dynamic feed is disruptive sometimes like I'll be reading a headline or looking at a thumbnail blown up by Imagus extension and then it shifts suddenly.
Kbin is more stable from that perspective, but I somehow have -2 rep points (that I care about for some stupid reason) despite having (so far) more ups than downs on my few comments. OH and the very frequent 503 errors on random pages, but I suspect that's growing pains from an enormous influx

-still haven't quite removed rif from the phone though. might check on it 7/1 and see if it works or not

happyspark,

Not a programmer, but I can definitely attest that TV Medicine is wildly inaccurate. From CPR (method, success rate, reason for initiating) to the usefulness of various imaging modalities; it's like watching a gardener plant a whole watermelon and growing a sky-high beanstalk the following morning.

A really fun intersection of both of these was the episode of Bones I saw once when visiting my dad, where some corpse had a microscopic code etched in its femur that then hijacked/hacked the CT machine computer when scanned.

I think the larger point is that you can still block domains you don't want to see, but in this particular case defederation should happen. Both things can co-exist
