Hiked up to Devil’s Peak via the Hunchback Trail. I made a mistake and didn’t read the comments. There were significant piles of giant downed trees to climb over and around. Mount Hood looked beautiful from the top. Made it a loop on the way back by going down Green Canyon Way and then exploring the Old Salmon River Trail. Had an amazing time.
Hope you enjoy your time here, albeit not too much posts as of yet. It would be great to see if you have anything you want to post, please add a thread to build some conversation!
All good tips!
Always important to double check what amenities are available especially if there is water and electrical hookups present.
There are many state owned campgrounds around me that charge marginal fees but 98% of them do not have water/electric hookups.
So make sure you are going to a campground that checks all the boxes in what you are looking for.
I realized I interacted / posted / commented less and less on reddit these last couple of years. Couldn't even tell you why exactly. Now I've been here for a week and, I don't know, I just like interacting again... Hope it stays like this for a while :)
most of the time you'll be talking to a bot there without even realizing. they're gonna feed you products and ads interwoven into conversations, and the AI can be controlled so its output reflects corporate interests. advertisers are gonna be able to buy access and run campaigns. based on their input, the AI can generate...
Yeah I've replied to a post here too about bots taking over.
I used ChatGPT to "reply to the post as if you were a robot"
Made it a pretty funny response and then people were asking if I was a bot.
Who knows, maybe I am.
I discovered yesterday evening that Lemmy.ml is blocking all inbound ActivityPub requests from /kbin instances. Specifically, a 403 'access denied' is returned when the user agent contains "kbinBot" anywhere in the string. This has been causing a cascade of failures with federation for many server owners, flooding the message...
John Bannister Goodenough, the American co-inventor of Lithium-ion batteries and a co-winner of 2019 Nobel prize for Chemistry, has passed away. He was just a month short of turning 101. Goodenough also played a significant role in the development of Random Access Memory (RAM) for computers.
Mine is going to be laid back if all goes according to plan. I'm going to do some birding with a friend tomorrow morning, then I'm headed to a used bookstore to buy a copy of "the pricess bride" that I talked myself out of the other day (I've never read it). Then I'm hitting the farmers market and then relaxing at home for the...
Although the name "boost" is a little odd. kbin is more than than just a link aggregator. kbin is also a semi-blogging platform (View the microblog feed rather than threads) that interacts with Mastodon. If you boost something, it is the same as reblogging (re-tweeting) a post and generates a reblog post on Mastodon. The developer is going to change it to where the up and downvote impacts reputation rather than the current boost and downvote button. A technical oversight but they acknowledge this and plan on changing it in the future however internet points is not really a priority so no one knows when the change will roll out.
How is everyone enjoying kbin? Any tips for those who are just getting started?
I would personally like to see a mobile app available. Although browsing on a mobile browser isn't terrible, I still would want to see what could be made for mobile.
@SamXavia You'll always be welcome in this magazine! Feel free to strike up a conversation or add a thread. That would be the best way to drum up some activity.

How to google for content from Fediverse?
Sorry if this has been asked already, but I'm struggling with my google skills and fediverse right now...
Hot take: 18 years of user contributions to reddit will serve as a base model for an AI that generates content and conversations. the reddit experience continues as a simulation, to harvest clicks, sales and ad revenue.

Is anybody else more active here then they were on Reddit?
When I was on Reddit I felt like my opinion didn’t matter. But here it just feels more open and free.

PSA: Upvote is not an upvote like you are used to (like Reddit) - "Boost" is the Reddit Upvote
Like the title says, if you want to upvote something on KBin, you should use the Boost link, not the upvote button (Why? Don't know...)...
