Imho, it’s a bit like a water fountain. You wouldn’t ask before filling up your bottle. In both cases you as an individual are costing the business pennys.
The only place you mentioned that I personally wouldn’t do it is a store, but that’s mostly because to charge your phone you kinda have to sit by the outlet and I personally see stores as places of movement where hanging out is discouraged. You are supposed to buy something and leave.
But for doctors offices, you’re probably fine, and libraries you 100% all g.

Prepare for my brutally honest feelings on cishets
My feelings on cishets is that you’re (on average) less interesting to me than queer people. With that said, have had a couple cishet friends in the past. You’re all fine. It’s not to say that you as a person are boring. But, Cishet is like the cardboard box of the gender/sexuality spectrum to me, incredibly mundane.
Idk how to explain it. Due to being LGBTQIA+ myself, queer people automatically get a +1 in my ranking of how much I am interested in interaction with you.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that Meta has no other microblogging platform. They’re not trying to choke out competition, because there isn’t any competition.
I personally believe that they are trying to tap into the Fediverse and use it as a springboard to grow their own platforms. However it’s worth keeping in mind that as any federated platform grows, other federated platforms grow with it.
Kbin’s growth is good for lemmy. The Fediverse grows with this kind of competition.
While Im not personally a fan of meta. It’s probably in the fedieverse’s best interest to at least be willing to come to the table and consider the possibilities, instead of just immediately fighting this. Remember, we haven’t seen the implementation yet. This is all just speculations.
