If you actually read into his time at the Ecuadorian embassy

The Embassy suddenly alleged to the media that it had all these problems with him after Ecuador had a change of government to a right wing that would be more sympathetic to US objectives.

There was no independent evidence for those claims. And when the CIA is involved we have no particular reason to trust them.

Afterthought: the CIA literally spy as their raison d'etre, and are implicated in many political destabilizations. It's incredibly hypocritical that they want to extradite and punish a journalist for doing what they themselves do.

The world is currently experiencing its second major coral bleaching event in 10 years, with reef systems from Australia to Florida teetering on the brink of disaster following months of record-breaking ocean heat, a US agency announced Monday.

The consequences of coral bleaching are far-reaching, affecting not only the health of oceans but also the livelihoods of people, food security, and local economies.

Severe or prolonged heat stress leads to corals dying off, but there is hope for recovery if temperatures drop and other stressors such as overfishing and pollution are reduced.

"As the world's oceans continue to warm, coral bleaching is becoming more frequent and severe," said Derek Manzello of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

"When these events are sufficiently severe or prolonged, they can cause coral mortality, which hurts the people who depend on the coral reefs for their livelihoods."

NOAA's heat-stress monitoring is based on satellite measurements from 1985 to the present day. The current bleaching event is the fourth on record, with previous events in 1998, 2010, and 2016.

Coral – which are marine invertebrates made up of individual animals called polyps – have a symbiotic relationship with the algae that live inside their tissue and provide their primary source of food.

When the water is too warm, coral expel their algae and turn white, an effect called "bleaching" that leaves them exposed to disease and at risk of dying off.

Malnutrition is spreading at record pace among children, according to the World Food Programme. More than 90% of young children and pregnant and breastfeeding women are subsisting on two or fewer food groups – mainly bread – with no access to fruit, vegetables, milk or proteins.

Almost half of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million is under 18, and the effects of starvation may follow those who survive for the rest of their lives: their brains and bodies, without the nutrients needed for growth, cannot properly develop, leading to health problems such as poor eyesight and learning difficulties later in life.

The strip’s healthcare system has collapsed, and a lack of water and food has made it nearly impossible for medical staff to alleviate the symptoms of malnutrition in vulnerable people.

Jihan Abu al-Jidyan, a mother of five waiting in a long line for watery soup in Deir al-Balah, is nine months pregnant. She is severely malnourished, and it is unlikely her body will be able to produce milk when her baby arrives. Her newborn is likely to have a low birth weight, which is associated with infant mortality, and will also be at severe risk of malnutrition.

“Ever since the war began I have been coming to the food charity. There are seven of us and I can’t find food for everyone. It’s a tough situation,” she said.

A promised surge in aid Benjamin Netanyahu promised Joe Biden after Israel’s killing of a team of international aid workers earlier this month has so far failed to materialise, charities say.

I know content analysis or discourse analysis would find this outlet is very selective with words like "massacre" or active terms liks "kills". That's just its bias.

But trying to fudge objective reality, like a refugee camp being a refugee camp or an occupation being an occupation, is next level and falls under propaganda.
