Crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing occurring against the Massalit in West Darfur: Human Rights Watch (www.jurist.org)

Human Rights Watch (HRW) reported on Thursday that ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity are occurring in El Geneina, Sudan. The events are labeled as “among the worst atrocities against civilians so far in the current conflict in Sudan.”...

From the article:

This was confirmed by ICC prosecutor Karim A. A. Khan in January 2024 during a statement. He mentioned, “There are grounds to believe that presently Rome Statute crimes are being committed in Darfur by both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces and affiliated groups.”

At an international level, the availability of information regarding the crimes committed in Sudan has been a challenge. As a result, many of the crimes committed go unpunished, resulting in a lack of justice. Executive director at Human Rights Watch, Tirana Hassan, said that “the global inaction in the face of atrocities of this magnitude is inexcusable.” Conversely, in March 2024, the UN Security Council took further action regarding the situation in West Darfur. Resolution 2725 extends the Panel of Experts monitoring sanctions and actions in Sudan to 2025, assisting in the various reports.

The report includes a series of recommended actions to be considered internationally. These include targeted sanctions, an arms embargo, and further investigations into the events committed. The situation in Sudan is still under development. Stressing international cooperation and humanitarian action is a central priority in the report.

It may be irrelevant to your purposes but it's not irrelevant to the families she affected.

It's good that their leadership is taking a stand.

Thanks that was a really thorough and insightful article.

All the big stuff has been covered so I'll just add a small point:

When you praise her, praise her for who she is as a person first, not just her looks.

Instead of starting with "that's a pretty dress", opt for "did you choose that dress? You have a great sense of style" or "I love how enthusiastic you are about this outing" or whatever.

The State Department said that Israel's military campaign in Gaza may have violated international law. (www.nytimes.com)

The Biden administration has concluded it is “reasonable to assess” that Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has violated international law, but has not found specific instances that would justify the withholding of military aid, the State Department told Congress on Friday....

They're also allowing mask-off genocidal statements in their public sphere. It doesn't sound like much but it's a pretty damning one and well documented.

Yeah the point of interest here is it's a step closer to a BRICS currency.

I'm so tired of hearing about US police brutality and China being authoritarian. Why does it feel like everyone is a hypocrite here? Where are the posts about Chinese protests and police brutality?

I bet if the kind of things happening in the US happened in China, I wouldn’t be able to stop hearing about it. I mean, people are still criticizing the Tiananmen Square massacre, and hasn’t anything happened since then? It’s like still making conspiracy theories about Kennedy’s assassination or 9/11, those are old news.

This. There's nothing in western news media about domestic issues in China. If @PumpkinDrama wants to know more they should look for books or articles about Chinese protests such as the anti PX protests and the anti nuclear plant protests.

Yes, we could update the snake with Alrosa, Lobaye, all the foreign-owned mining companies and their mercenaries in DRC. Whoever M23 sells its plunder to, as well (Apple, according to recent reports).

I just wake up and am myself, and I’m somehow paid for this. Given all the bullshit surrounding corporate roles, I’m left agape at how this still exists and my ability to just slide into something I’ve never done.

That just sounds like normal imposter syndrome to me. You're questioning why you are allowed to do something that youre competent to do.

If you didn't have imposter syndrome you wouldnt be questioning it.

Unlikely. Jackson is Darth Vader to Warners Palpatine.

He literally lobbied the New Zealand Government to change the labour laws to avoid paying his employees any benefits on The Hobbit movies (they became "independent contractors" so no sick pay, job security, or holiday pay).

Actors Guild went on strike over it. If anything, Jackson will be the one using Weta to create AI versions of those pesky actors.

Really? That's so interesting, and a bit disappointing.

I'm still on kbin so I can't see downvotes from other instances, only our own. So most downvotes for me indicate actual spam.

I've noticed it too but I don't think it's only because of the exodus.

I think it's also because by removing mod tools and opening the floodgates for bots, Reddit has enabled all kinds of vote manipulation and content manipulation by all the shill armies.

Everything from the Hasbara, the 50 centers, Putin's troll farm, Musk's troll farm, whatever Zucc runs that used to come and sealion me anytime I talked about facebook's role in genocide ... all those things have come into their full power now.

Well yeah that's the big picture for sure. I live in a country where there is no capital gains tax on houses and consequently no cheap housing anywhere in the country, because capitalism.

We have universal healthcare, but our housing situation creates a huge drain on it. It's infuriating.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with them looking, it was the telling management part that bothered me. As a society we're too quick to throw each other under the bus.

livus,

If the US would withdraw protection the rest of the international community could probably make more meaningful interventions in the genocide.

livus,
livus avatar

Yeah. Reports have been coming out of Sde Teiman for a while now. It's Israel's Abu Ghraib for sure, only with a lot more amputation.

Especially chilling that they hold so many doctors from the Gaza hospitals in there. Imagine being a trained medical doctor and having to see the Israeli interns do this to people.

That usrname tho. What you just said hits different.
