Call out post for a particular karma farmer on kbin.social

@pollodiabolo - this user is a karma whore of epic proportions and they have made a shit load (10-15+) accounts on kbin that boost and upvote each other while sometimes mass downvoting others that have posts trending towards the top - all to farm karma....

Pons_Aelius,

You seem to have struck a chord...

All three (make that 4) downvotes are from accounts younger than this post.

Some new accounts to add to the list:

@latvianbloke

@puny_human

@pedanticc

...

@SONOFNAT

Kichae,

I'm increasingly convinced that general reputation points should just go. They're not about reputation at all. They're about making social media more addictive.

Large positive scores are meaningless without knowing where they came from. And even then, they can be farmed. Same for large negative ones.

What do people actually use the score for? To determine whether some else is worth engaging with? 9 times out of 10, you can tell just from the post - people acting in bad faith are pretty easy to spot. If someone's being a prick, they can be ignored even if they're usually a level headed and nice person 99% of the time. If someone's JAQing off, or sea-lioning, they'll make it known in short order.

A number doesn't tell us what to do about it.

Breakdowns by group is a good idea. Maybe expand that idea to give a count of posts and comments by group, too. Not necessarily viewable by everyone, but at least by mods and admins.

I absolutely love the collaboration you and @FixedFun have made with this design, as well as the callback to the unfortunately deleted kbeanaut thread.. I'd also like to second @birlocke_ and @Gamers_Mate's alternate idea of the Bird in a bin (ala bin chicken).

Personally my favorite is #6, followed by #1 and #4!

If these ever become an icon pack I'd love variations of all the birds as well as kbinaut mode!

I couldn't view your last post (apparently there's an issue with having with having thumbnails set to off making you not view the image even when the post is pulled up) so I have a few things I want to say:

  1. Changing the outline to match the background instead of just black was brilliant and really livens up the icon
  2. That subtle change from the original to #1 in this post with the perspective/curved bottom line added a lot of character to the bird
  3. You have a spoopy profile pic but golly can you make a cute design!

Ok. I am someone who feels like kbin doesn't really need a mascot at this point in time. It seems really early and tbh the whole thing feels a little forced. Really not into the bird design either. I just don't get it...

But holy shit this new icon on the right has 100% changed my mind.

It is adorable and I'd put that on the first page of my phone home screen, no questions asked.

Well done.

I just love it, the Kbird never looked so good, I don't care about credit I just want the Kbird to exist one way or another

Wow ;) I'm incredibly lucky to have come across people like you. The authors of those posts are actually right - managing /kbin is a significant challenge nowadays. It requires extensive knowledge and experience to keep it under control. But also I've never hidden that fact - the information about it is placed at the very top of the repository's readme ;) However, as I mentioned, a lot is changing very quickly https://kbin.social/m/RedditMigration/t/122333/Fediverse-won-t-replace-Reddit-as-long-as-Lemmy-is-the#entry-comment-478779. And we're all working hard on it, to improve and automate as many things as possible. Thanks to all of you, I believe I can face it head-on, and together we can create a better place. Better internet. Not just this instance, but cooperation between platforms is the key here.

Unfortunately, there are delays occurring again - I've decided that smooth website operation will be the priority this time. There are approximately 450k tasks waiting in the queue, and everything will be handled, but it will take some time. Today, we're also conducting final tests of the new infrastructure. It's taking a while because we're documenting templates that can later be used by others to create their own instances. I hope these are the last issues we have to endure ;)

Thanks for everything.

While larger, more general communities are thriving on the Fediverse - I'm missing out on the niche communities

Gaming, news, tech, general literature. All of these are somewhat thriving, with a steady influx of posts and comments. At the same time, the userbase is sorely lacking for more niche communities. In my case it'd be stuff like poetry, yoga, religion, linguistics, meditation. Or many other communities I'd doubt they'd form a...

I noticed there didn't exist a niche community that I'm passionate about so... I created it! It's like any other new platform, it just takes time.

On top of that, we can't expect communities to POOF into existence.

We have to be part of them to build them, which means making them if they don't exist yet as well as posting and commenting in the ones that do exist. I hope that people who are used to lurking on Reddit will go out of their comfort zone a bit and start to participate in fediverse communities so that we can build things up more quickly.
