The Titanic director has made 33 dives to the shipwreck and visited ocean depths in a submersible he built himself. He compares OceanGate to the Titanic in that both ignored safety warnings.
And yet not 2 posts up you quote Cameron in a way that makes him sound like he has significant knowledge about the structural integrity and construction of a high pressure tolerant vessel.
"Military grade" does not necessarily mean higher quality. It just means it meets the requirements of the military for a specific purpose. Could actually be pretty shit quality. But you'd already know that if you had read RoboRay's initial comment.
It's not clear what you are trying to say. He obviously funded it and piloted it and had to be intimately involved in its construction, including oversight and planning. He took the thing down to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Are you arguing that he doesn't know as much about the construction of the sub as a guy welding a joint or tightening a bolt? I'm pretty sure that most people would say that if you could name one person that "built" the sub it would be him. He is arguably the world's expert on this topic.
Your interpretation is incorrect as it my earlier link, there are clear local jurisdiction examples of laws that have been passed over the last 100 years to prevent this type of harmful speech. What is the purpose of government but to protect citizens from harm? There is no reasonable debate amongst any credible physician or scientist with an ounce of statistical knowledge that vaccines cause autism.
You mean like local governments and jurisdictions passing laws to prevent harmful speech like "fire" in a theater? There is over 100 years of history of laws being passed to prevent harmful speech. You don't get to say something that harms people any more than you get to smoke a cigarette right next to me.
In the last few years, Reddit has become overwhelmed with bots and trolls. Kbin and Lemmy feel more fresh because they are - it’s too soon for the negative cloud. But it will come eventually. For now, this is a million times better than Reddit.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to go back i promise, quite the contrary actually cause I think spez plans to just decrease the cost of the API and act like it was a bargain deal sacrifice while not solving any of the issues at all...
