iPhone because it's slightly more private than Android, and only because there is literally no other alternative in my country. I did get the ubuntu phone back when that was released around 2014 or so, but a month or so after it was released, the government licensed company providing the mandatory app ended their linux support and bam, back to iPhone. sigh.
Yes, I know I could use a de-googled Android alternative, but I am unwilling to need the app and find out that a new update have broken it and then be unable to do anything for potentially days until someone finds a workaround.
the people still on reddit after the 30th when the third party apps close down, i personally believe can stay there indefinitely. these people, and i, do not exist on the same wavelength.
tesla has a dog nose and it annoys the crap out of me. how does a dog nose connect to the invention of electricity in any way? it's not thematic at all. should have been a tesla coil.
they didn't really try. it's more of a suggestion (and still is). metric is standard in the US within science, just not among regular folks because commercially it's not as dramatic, i.e. news stations dramatize 100F!!! since it sounds way more dramatic than 38°C. if the news and commercial products started using metric, people would quickly switch over.
unfortunately a lot of imperial shit has started migrating to europe due to chinese products being produced for the US market and then sold in europe as an afterthought using imperial units.
anything by Brandon Sanderson, especially his Cosmere stuff. Light reads despite density, story gets complex under the hood once you realize what's going on in the greater Cosmere universe glimpsed through the various book series.
Mistborn second series just wrapped up recently. Eagerly awaiting the third series so we can get on with Stormlight part 2 (where the two series merges into one. there is only one book left in Stormlight part 1, and release is expected next year i think).
I decided to take a peek at Reddit to see what kind of activity is happening, a good handful of the subreddits I am subscribed to are still super active with posts and commenters....
It would appear it's mostly bots, probably paid for by reddit (or interested groups) to muddle the waters.
I have seen countless posts trying to discredit the fediverse, how it won't work because it isn't financially backed (completely ignoring that email is still a thing), or how Mastodon apparently failed. On top of that, there are tons of comments in the threads for subs that went dark where the commenter argues "all this does is hurt the sub". but when you look into the commenter, they have no previous history of being active in these subs at all.
But, i've seen this kind of activity all over reddit for the past 2 years. Especially when something unpopular is happening. There is a lot of the same type of crap you see during the presidential elections of the US. A lot of fake comments, posts, and statistics, and other things to try steer the public opinion in an engineered direction.
I started using mastodon when musk bought twitter and kbin with all the reddit API shitshow. I like the idea of the fediverse but how does it have longevity?

OC Here's my final idea for a Kbin mascot, I call it the "Kbird" (K = Kakatuá), since someone shared a Fediverse flag resembling a pirate flag I thought a bird mascot would fit.

I have never read a book recreationally and I love fiction.
Which book would you recommend me as my first ever book?
Took a peek on Reddit, it really boggles my mind how oblivious and obedient people are.

Realistically how does the fediverse make money and remain sustainable? only donations?
