Regardless if the guy deserved it or not, killing them in a country you are supposed to be on good terms with is not the way to go about it.

At this point India is barely even trying to hide it.

Anti-affirmative action group, emboldened by US Supreme Court, targets scholarships (www.reuters.com)

Sept 22 (Reuters) - A non-profit group opposing race-based education policies has filed more than a dozen U.S. civil rights complaints this year against universities, challenging the legality of offering minority scholarships, summer study and residency programs to promote racial diversity....

Is helping a specific group of people discrimination? Even when it's focused on race?

I don't think so, especially if it's based on other factors like past historical events and continued consequences of that.

If it was putting a race over another it would be. Like if a scholarship rated Native Americans above Caucasians through a score to see how likely they would receive it.

Though I would admit affirmative action always gave me mixed feelings.

I’ll admit it. I do listen to her songs.

To be fair, most people don’t listen or care to listen to politics. Don’t blame them.

But many DO listen and care about their entertainment. I’ll take it if it means people who wouldn’t get involved do now. Especially if her fans are of the younger progressive variety.

There is no indoctrination, so this shit article can take a hike.

Funny thing is the counter protester outnumbered these hate crazed freaks by quite a lot.

Not much of a complete defeat if it’s just a few tanks. Let alone no date or verification.

From what I’ve seen and heard the counter protesters outnumbered the protesters by quite a lot.

Ironic the 1 Million March 4 Children didn’t come close to a million. Not that I’m crying due to how misinformed and hate crazed they are about lgbt topics in schools and claiming “sexualizing” or pushing a “ideology” on the kids.

They can put their kids in a private school or homeschool them if they care so much.

Already failed the DoD vote, so he's running out of options.

If he does go to the Democrats, he's screwed. If he doesn't he is still screwed.

Dude wanted this job too.....hahahahahaha!

Senate Confirms Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, Sidestepping Tuberville Blockade (www.nytimes.com)

The Senate voted on Wednesday to confirm Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr. of the Air Force as the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, steering around a monthslong blockade of military promotions by Senator Tommy Tuberville, Republican of Alabama, who has held up hundreds of nominees in protest of a Pentagon abortion access...

Unfortunately, as long as the lights stay on, air conditioning keeps blasting, grocery store stays stocked, and entertainment remains flowing then people won't do anything.

The people who could do something would make them lose the next election, be labeled terrorists, or start get harping on "won't you think of the economy!"

Progress is being made, but drastic measures needed to happen decades ago. The question is now how quickly and badly will things get, and how well we can manage it....

    I'm sensing a tend here....

On another note, how is it SO HARD not to sexually assault or RAPE anyone when you are a celebrity and/or rich?

Considering their policy doesn't allow for other stuff like this, yeah I am not surprised.

Reminds me of the time when a Spiderman mod removed the VERY few instances of a pride flag in a recreation of NEW YORK CITY and a Skyrim mod that removed any potential gay romances that only occur when wearing a very specific amulet (including a single dead skeleton couple off the beaten path.)

Those got booted as well cause.....come on now. Its blatantly targeting a group of people about their sexuality and gender who have BARELY any presence to begin with in these games.

Starfield is even more egregious as its LITERALLY just a menu option and the rare use in dialogue....

Really pathetic and sad people would even feel the need to make them to begin with. Let alone feel the need to upload them to a platform.

The current trend of drawn waifu/ anime porn/ child-looking-like sexualised girls is CRINGE af

I just can’t, and sadly it’s worst in Linux community. Like dude’s face hair makes him look 45, but no, he does a desktop with a cringy looking 15 old anime girl. (That, on top of hiz annoyingly high pitched voice but whatever) I just stop watching the video on the spot, it’s beyond dumb....

    snipgan avatar

If you are talking about blatantly kiddie porn, then I absolutely agree with you.

Though it is not a new trend, not particularly an unpopular opinion, or limited to just cringe.

If it’s just cutsie or shortstack type character, then to each their own.

Loli stuff has always been a black hole when it comes to any anime discussion, so I applaud your bravery in breaching the subject.

Unsurprising. Large “power breeds” like pit bulls I have always found questionable to have.

No restrictions or licenses? No muzzles at least?

A good thing they banned them.

Though I still dislike the outright malice and hate I see when a pit bull in a photo might be doing nothing but staring at a sunset. A bit hate crazy.

    snipgan,

To be fair most won’t, but they definitely can and do.

Especially when they are jaws on legs that are more inclined compared to other dogs.

    snipgan,
    snipgan avatar

    Exactly.

I'd go one step farther and even say if they even had the same amount of attacks as other dogs, had no possible mental diseases, and all want to caring homes I would still put restrictions/ban on them.

They are just too large to handle, too big of a bite to brush off, and end up in dog attacks a lot. That's enough for me.

The economy overall might be fine, but the average person can still not be.

People don't care much about data and facts on unemployment and GDP when ultimately their personal situation is what matters. Things are more expensive and wages for a lot of people haven't kept up. Already have too many people think that no/less inflation means prices go down, when actually that just means prices stay the same or go up slower. Deflation is off the table cause that can be even worse.

Sadly, there isn't much that can be done beyond sticking to higher interest rates and letting the market adapt and catch up.

Not much the president can do either, especially with this congress. Even if it wasn't, the changes and effects would likely take years to even reach fruition. Let alone have a significant impact for most people if all goes according to plan.

We have seen this scenario play out before.

    snipgan,
    snipgan avatar

    Paywall.

But that is very weird if people think they are fine, but somehow others aren't and the economy isn't. At least enough to say that.

    snipgan,
    snipgan avatar

What explains negativity about a good economy? Partisanship is surely a factor: Republicans’ assessment of the current economy roughly matches what it was in June 1980, when unemployment was twice as high and inflation four times as high as they are now. Beyond that, the events of the past few years — not just inflation and higher interest rates but also the disruption Covid caused to everyone’s lives, and perhaps the sense that America is coming apart politically — may have engendered a sourness, an unwillingness to acknowledge good news even when it happens.

    Interesting option from the article.

So, it might be more "everything is falling apart or not the same" type of thinking. Could explain it and wouldn't surprise me.

Everything does seem different after COVID at least. Things don't feel the same even years after.

    snipgan,
    snipgan avatar

Arguably one of the least disliked of Republicans, John McCain not withstanding, for me personally.

At least tried to maintain some sort of civility. Too bad that doesn't mean much when he goes along with the rest of colleagues and their craziness.

Not sad he's gone, but not particularly happy either. Might open up Utah for the Dems in the future.

    snipgan,
    snipgan avatar

    Same.

Although it's becoming close I register for Democrats cause of how bad things have gotten with Republicans.
They only got culture wars and conspiracy theories and downright malice now.

Helps me? NO. Tax cuts for the rich, taxes for me, and forcing their religion down my throat.

Helps others? NO. Targeting social security, restricted voting, and a whole lot of pulling up bootstraps

Helps kids? NO. Child labor laws weakened, free school lunched targeted, and don't say gay.

Helps nature? NO. Climate change "isn't real!!!", drill baby drill no matter what, and hostility to any "alternative/clean" solutions.

What future is there in that? Just a regressive and bastardization of the past. For what?!?! Just to try to bring back the "Good old days?"

With Dems there is at least a future, as troubled and imperfect as it might be. With Reps there isn't

I already lost Roe v Wade cause "progressives" cutting off their nose in spite.

Even if Hilary lost, that was no excuse to let Republicans take over the senate or elsewhere. Which they did.

Even back in my more "libertarian" days I still voted for Hilary cause what I knew could happen. And it did happen.

Edit: Turns out Bernie/Progressive voters really did come out a lot for Hilary, which lead to the popular vote wins. I was wrong. Sorry.

Looking into it more, it appears you are likely right. Was probably the echo chamber I was in while I was younger telling me otherwise. Seeing a lot of "Bernie Bros" and the like saying they wouldn't.

    I apologize.

Twitter, as far as I have recalled, has almost always been a cesspool for hot takes and hate. Just with Elon in charge the flood gates have really opened and has acquired a particular flavor mimicking his own tastes.

The real question now is if this will ultimately lead to the ban or slow death of Twitter. People really can only put up with so much vitriol.

Many countries are lining up with laws and bill coming after social media, usually under the goal or "goal" of protecting kids, so we will see how things turn out. Might even be a quicker death/change then.

    snipgan,
    snipgan avatar

From what I have seen, granted I haven't played it myself due to my burnout with Fallout 4, Starfield is just a Bethesda flavored No Man's Sky.

Not much to grab my attention and most people I have seen played it seem to put it at a 5-6/10 type of game. Good, but nothing really great.

Meanwhile we have an arguably more fleshed out space exploration game that is No Man's Sky to suit your itch, that is probably cheaper or on sale somewhere. Doesn't helping modding will take years to reach really big game altering levels as it took a while, If even that.
