I had a particularly bad automatic transmission in my first car and went with a manual shortly after.

I literally just made this switch to a Sony Xperia. I had zero issues with any apps, I even could keep Apple Music which is a decent experience on Android.

iMessage is the one and only annoyance, because my family has two large group chats for everything, and my Android number would break them. I have an old Mac Mini, so I set up Blue Bubbles server and linked it to my phone. It's been a very smooth experience and let's me keep up with those groups no problem.

I just asked everyone in those groups to make a second contact for me containing my iCloud email address, and keep it separate from my phone number, then I removed my phone number from the message group after adding just my email address.

If you add your iMessage email address to the same contact as your non-iMessage phone number, Apple will not allow you to not use iMessage, and will send your messages to the address instead of the phone number every time.

As most everyone here has said, Apple is pretty sucky with it's messaging, and it's clearly intentional. If you have no important groups, just turn off iMessage completely for your account. At least they fixed it so that if no iMessage address is available for you, it will fall back to SMS.

There’s a commercial Linux client I was using called Insync and it was perfect. Only stopped using it because I switched away from Linux

I had the distinct misfortune of being a loner for my formative years. As I’ve aged, I never hit my stride or found my niche. I have plenty of hobbies and things I enjoy, but no place to share them… even if I find a convention or rare place to explore them with others, they are often filled with people who already found their people and aren’t seeking any new applicants. Or, more likely, these places are far from where I am.

It then returns the burden to me. Do I keep my job and pay and current possessions… or do I sell all of it and move closer to the places I can find others? No, not even that: give up stability and security for the chance to find places to find others. Not even guaranteedz

You know it’s hard to believe those kinds of words. But I appreciate it all the same. ^^

It happens so often! You break out of the comfort zone and spend resources and energy to make the effort, only to have nothing to show for it. Coming away with something (or someone!) is never the intended goal, but you’d feel better if you did, right?

More now than ever, you find people that are takers and not givers. I was raised that if you were kind and generous, that you would attract others. But when everyone takes what you give, but gives nothing in return, you burn out and feel used. Once you have nothing left to give, they go away.

You’re only welcome if you have something to offer. If you have nothing, you are nothing in their eyes. Hi lighting the differences between us all is a worrying trend.

I work in a mainframe as part of my daily job. It’s one of my favorite things. Intensely powerful, can shuffle through thousands of records of data in an instant.

It’s expensive to run, and likely could be replaced with a modern application… but that high availability, high parallelism, and ‘built-in’ handling of resource scheduling to avoid deadlocks and other multitasking worries is hard to beat.

There’s a reason it’s stuck around. And while it’s annoyingly proprietary and in most cases still means you’re in the green screen terminals, it’s just a powerful tool.

I recognize myself in this cycle every time, but can’t break myself out of it

I’ve been wearing a rainbow pin and watch band for over a year, with the same idea in mind: hoping it made others feel safe and seen. I will support them to the end and beyond.

I have a fear that my appearance overwrites any of that intention of goodwill, though. When I was struggling, members of the LGBTQ+ community were my only solace and are the only reason I’m around today. But those people never saw me physically, just spoke online. It’s sad to know my support of them and my undying thanks may never be seen past the person I am on the outside.

LEGO Island was so awesome… been following MattKC for awhile now and was super pleased he took this on.

I had been looking into trying to remake the island in something more modern like Blender, but without reference or debug info, it’s difficult.

Hopefully this results in some newer and better ways to play. Though it will probably take a few years!

/kbin server update - or how the server didn't blow up

Currently, on the main instance, people have created 40191 accounts (+214 marked as deleted). I don't know how many are active because I don't monitor it, but once again, I greet all of you here :) In recent days, the traffic on the website has been overwhelming. It's definitely too much for the basic docker-compose setup,...

Huge shoutout to you and all of those who have gotten kbin to this point. Super crazy to have seen it go from struggling to a place I can happily and easily browse

When the blackout came, Lemmy had some dissent (people couldn’t fully recommend it). A community about Kbin got banned and I came and looked at it. I just liked the way it looked.

Took a bit to get used to it, but the layout makes sense and it made me look into Mastodon.

Once federation kicked in, I could easily see posts from everywhere here, and the local magazines had nice people. Didn’t see a reason to look elsewhere.

I can’t speak to “why not Lemmy”, but genuinely I like it here and don’t see a reason to go elsewhere

I end up not having the energy to focus on myself at all. But it really doesn't help to know that.

talizorah,

I may not be well regarded, but they just don’t know me yet.

talizorah,

I hope so. My experience thus far between Kbin and Mastodon are very positive. ADHD, ASD, etc. seem to be more common, therefore better understood and accepted.

Everyone is different and struggles differently, but hey. Hopefully you find some friendly faces here ^^

Ah, just realized you’re on Lemmy. No worries! Basically, there’s a few different sites that are all talking the same “language”. So while you’re on lemmy.world, I’m on kbin.social, but we both can see the same posts and talk to each other.

I had a similar experience with Reddit trying to find support from the community there. ADHD sucks, and while having a positive attitude is good… sometimes you’re tired of being positive and want to just talk about what’s frustrating.

I’ve used the jump from Reddit to just… approach it more honestly. Everyone is pretty new to this mode of operation. Be you, be transparent, be kind. I’ve felt better speaking up here than I ever did on Reddit. Best of luck!

I’ve been case free on all my devices since the iPhone SE 1st gen. Tons of scratches and dings. But I prefer the way it feels in my hand and pocket, and it just works. If the scratches are too much, I get a replacement screen or device… which isn’t often

This has been the most fascinating last few days. Hello Lemmy from Kbin~

I tried MAUI and really didn't enjoy the experience. I was looking into Avalonia but wasted so much time trying MAUI that I had to go back to regular WPF to finish the project on time.

I'm super interested in it, especially if it can do proper cross platform.

Windows Phone in the 7/8 era. It felt well composed, all it’s features worked pretty well, and it was fluid and smooth.

Did it have a lot of features? No, but what it had it did well. Once the concept of apps took off hard, it was clear WP wouldn’t get the popular ones, and with Microsoft beefing with Google at the time, the OS lost all its support and died.

I grew up on older keyboards, so the curve of the MT3 works well for me. Some really don’t like it! But it’s familiar and works well for my typing style. I got some DCX caps for a gaming board and while it works, it isn’t my favorite.

The switches being stiff and tactile while quiet is the biggest feature of the thing. I can forgive a keycap, but not so easily a switch.

Somewhere early on this magazine, someone posted a side profile of the major sets. Definitely a good resource.
