zombiepiratefromspace, to piracy in Is music piracy dying?

As soon as I had enough disposable income, I started getting my music from bandcamp.

There is more good music from new artists on there than I could ever listen to.

Discovery works through youtube. Most artists in my preferred genre (stoner/doom) upload their albums to youtube.

zombiepiratefromspace, to technology in Microsoft wants to move Windows fully to the cloud

That's going to be interesting.

Here in Germany, we are forced to use Windows in schools because "it's what the kids need in the real world".

By forcing Windows to work cloud-only, they are literally making it illegal to use in schools here, because we can't force children to use anything doing data-harvesting in order to pursue their education.

Fun times ahead!

zombiepiratefromspace, to chat in Personal AI becomes a thing. Who voices yours?

It's likely that most people think of themselves as a should-use-Morgan-Freeman-voice kind of person, when in reality they are a deserves-only-Bobcat-Goldthwait-voice kind of person.

zombiepiratefromspace, to dach in Wann wird feddit.de geupdatet?

Nein.

zombiepiratefromspace, to reddit in /r/pics employing weaponised bureaucracy in the fight against Reddit

I put a request in a few weeks ago, have not heard back and am now shown a message that I can't do so again for 30 days, even though I only did it once.

Reddit is not complying with GDPR becaues their processes are dogshit. And instead of fixing that, they instate an arbitrary (and also illegal) 30 day waiting period.

zombiepiratefromspace, to reddit in Starting Monday, June 19th, InterestingAsFuck only enforcing site rules. Users encouraged to post things they find interesting including NSFW

This is the next stage of protest. Running subreddits into the ground my malicious compliance.

There is another important thing that has to be done to complement this: Everybody should publicly push the idea that anybody willing to invest in Reddit is an absolute idiot. That everyone involved with the IPO (except reddit themselves) are rubes being scammed by reddit.

Pointing out that the value proposition of reddit has gone to shit by highlighting that they trashed some of their largest communities will help making that case.

zombiepiratefromspace, to programmerhumor in Do not touch the legacy runes.

Well, it's not quite fantasy, but the Laundry Files novels by Charles Stross merge the concept of "math/algorithms is magic" with lovecraftian horror and satire.

Das ist so absurd

Nee, das ist Hessen. So läuft das hier bei uns.

zombiepiratefromspace, to Buttcoin in IO-Radio #10: Reddit Censors Its Largest Crypto-Critical Community - IoRadio.org

That's... actually worse than a lot of what we've been protesting this week.

So Reddit is putting a disadvantage/brake on criticism regarding the scam of the century?

They are leaning on the scales in order to make the future a shittier place!

Very disappointing. Even from a status quo, where you're already disappointed.

zombiepiratefromspace, to startrek in So how long until they kick legacy mods from r/startrek and reopen?

Since they are looking for revenue, selling/renting out is quite likely.

I guess everything connected with Disney will be next.

Though I wonder if reddit is still in the grey zone where they can't really enter a relationship with big media conglomerates because their reputation precedes them.

I mean, big mouse will probably not become involved with a company that hosts a lot of pornography.

zombiepiratefromspace, to lemmyworld in Deleting your reddit content before migrating? DON'T, instead...

There is a torrent out there because some company did that up to March 2023. I forgot the name, but it should be findable.

But be warned, the whole thing is 2TB.

zombiepiratefromspace, to PCGaming in Microsoft exec says Starfield has 'the fewest bugs any Bethesda game ever shipped with'

But only if you make it through the glitching intro.

zombiepiratefromspace, to kbinMeta in /kbin - Just Reddit Things update

First up, thanks for your hard work!

Nevertheless, we are still running on a budget VPS.

As things are currently developing, it is almost a certainty that all reddit alternatives on the fediverse will get absolutely hammered on the 12th.

I know you are working on an infrastructure update. I just sent you a few bucks via buymeacoffee to support that. However, it could well be possible that the new infrastructure will also become overwhelmed during the days following the 12th, requiring another update in short notice.

At some point, things might become really expensive.

What I'm trying to say is: Don't be hesitant to ask for donations. I think many of the users here right now are acutely aware of how important the next few days are going to be for the post-reddit fediverse ecosystem. Growth needs servers, servers need money and I'm sure many users would be willing to to chip in.

zombiepiratefromspace, to linux in uhhh... what do I call the "subreddits"?

If the official name is magazines, then why not use "mags"?
