Here we go. First time attempting to use #Linux as a daily personal driver. Let's see what happens. Install was simple. Getting Firefox Developer Edition wasn't as easy as I'd hoped, but doable. #popos
@ahoyboyhoy For me it's the additional CSS tools and validators that don't exist in the regular Firefox version. I'm horrible with CSS and it helps me debug faster than a save + refresh.
@box464 maybe I'll have to see what I'm missing. The developer tools that ship standard have always worked well for me. I only used the developer edition years ago on macOS to just allow for a third browser environment.
Have fun. I remember when I took the plunge. I sort of lost it and after using #debian with #kde for all of about 5 minutes and immediately tried out tiling window managers. I specifically went with #qtile.
When I say I lost it, I mean I went too far down the rabbit hole. I don't think I'll ever come out tbh. I decided to go to my local linux users group meeting, most of those people hadn't seen anything like what I was doing before. A good chunk of them hadn't even heard of #NixOS (the distro I am using) or #hyprland (the Wayland compositor I use).
My point is, a lot of the major #linux YouTube channels all preach the glory of the tiling window manager, arch linux, and the command line. You don't need to do any of that unless you want to.
@ASP@pop_os_official I use Mac and Windows for my work from home setup, but both on the same machine. Wanted to create a separate environment just for personal use.
In the past I’ve tried versions of Mint but it never quite stuck with me. I blame that on always installing with old, slower machines so it really never got a chance to shine.
PopOS came recommended by a few here on Mastodon I trust and by @veronicaexplains so thought I’d give it a shot!
@box464 Good to see people are moving to linux I hope u enjoy the power of linux... I would suggest one cool thing use nala for installing packages using terminal, nala is the front end fir apt package manager
Can you tell process how u installed Firfox developer version I would to try that too..
Also, wondered how updates would be applied since it’s not managed in an App Store and auto-updates don’t work within the app. But as @Linux_Is_Best mentioned there’s a tool for that, too. Might switch to this!
@box464 Firefox Automatic Install for Linux will allow you to install any edition of Mozilla Firefox, directly from Mozilla. Moreso, choose between a personal install or a system install.
