That moment when you need to take the spark plug out of your snowblower… and you know that there is a special socket-thing to take out spark plugs… and you know you have one.. but you have NO IDEA where it is because you haven’t used it in many years… 🤦‍♂️😃

lynngrant,

@danyork I just bought a 13/16 spark plug socket. All my spark plugs are 5/8, but it seems like I should have one, just in case. Sadly, when the 13/16 spark plug comes along, I will probably have the same problem you mentioned.

@lynngrant HA! Probably very true.

My (new $9) spark plug socket is the dual-ended version that I think has both of those on them. (I didn't actually look at the measurements - I just tried both ends and used the one that worked! 🤣🤣)

@danyork They finally figured out how to make electric snowblowers. Even for Vermont winters. Just sayin.

@mendel YES! One of my neighbors has one an it seems to work well.

I do wonder how well they will work with all the different kinds of snows we have, though... with the wet, heavy snows in particular.

Our current gas snowblower is only a couple of years old and in great shape (now that I replaced the spark plug 😀 ). But once it dies, I'd definitely look at electric.

(Also would want one from Makita, as those are the batteries I use for all other electric tools right now.)

@danyork Keep in mind that your outdoor power equipment and hand tool battery systems won't be interchangeable even if they're from the same brand, so if you wanted to stick with Makita for 18V/20V hand tools and then go with Ego or Snow Joe for 40V/80V outdoor equipment, it would be fine. (I don't think Makita makes snowblowers, lawnmowers and so on anyway.)

@mendel Soo... Makita does actually make lawnmowers! Our big purchase this year was a Makita lawnmower that uses 2 of the 18V batteries. With 4 batteries (of the 5.0 variety), I can mow both our front and back yard. I just swap the batteries once in the process.

However, cutting grass is a whole different game from throwing snow!

Makita does not yet have an actual snowblower. (They have a small little thing for clearing paths, but that's it.)

whknott,

@danyork Most spark plugs can be removed with either an 11/16 or a 13/16 deepwell socket

My snowblower ate something nasty last year and fugged up a drive gear instead of shearing the shear pin. So now I get to fix THAT before it snows for real. Yay!

@whknott Yes, the issue is I don’t have any deep well sockets.

Well… now I do. 😃 Just went to the nearby auto parts store.

hooper,

@danyork I am so mechanically stoopid. I feel like a cart my blower to the shop once a year.
