sigh I have an American client who is having trouble, they say, being able to convert to £ (their end) for paying me. I have business bank account for my LTD that only accepts £ or €, apparently.

Anyone know of a way around this? A service either they or I could use? I would really prefer not to change bank accounts. Wish I'd know Starling was this limited at the outset.

@heydon I have used Wise.com to deal with global payments like this. The interface sucks, but the transfer fees are incredibly reasonable.

@heydon fortunately not had to so far, but when I nearly did at Monotype I was highly recommended Transferwise, now Wise. 🙏🖤

@sturobson @heydon another thumbs up for Wise for being paid internationally!

@heydon If you do end up switching, I can highly recommend Wise.

@heydon I use Wise.com to receive dollars from an American client and it works very well. Fees are really low as well.

(This referral link will give you no fees for the first £500: https://wise.com/invite/dic/robertl1550)

@heydon I had lined up Wise (ex Transferwise) for this purpose - they offer business accounts - but haven't needed to use it as my US client was able to figure out GBP transfers to my Starling account.

@threedaymonk @heydon
I set up Wise. Then used them to convert and transfer to Starling.

I'm told that some American banks can convert to £ before they send, but seems to be a bit niche/unreliable.

Payoneer is another alternative. I'm trying that out for one client.

@Edent @threedaymonk Thanks, Terence. So you can get wise to automatically transfer, upon receipt?

@heydon @threedaymonk
Not quite. You can schedule a transfer in advance. You can also auto-convert once your preferred exchange rate is hit.

I get a notification I've been paid, then hit a few buttons in the app to convert and move to my preferred account.
