A must-read.

Texas isn't the only state pushing for an end to no-fault divorce--Nebraska, Mississippi, & Louisiana are, too, & many more will follow. Red states want to trap women in pregnancy & in marriage, & they don't care how many of us die as a result. They're misogynists & abusers, & they want to take us back to a time when (white) men had all the power & we had none. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2023/09/no-fault-divorce-texas-republican-gop-crowder/?ref=shedissents.us

I'll say one more thing, & this is addressed to young women of "marrying" &/or "child-bearing age" (I hate those vomit-inducing phrases, but I think you understand my purpose in using them), & that's that if I were young--at this time, in this country--there's no way in hell I'd get married. No. Way. In. Hell.

I'd be down at my OB/GYN getting an IUD inserted like YESTERDAY, as well.

@BootsChantilly This is just another way to restrict women's autonomy. Since the woman gives way more to marriage and family than the man, speaking generally, it is safe to assume that men do not want to lose an unpaid source of labor. Women do well more than half the housework and nearly all the childcare, in addition to working full- to part-time. Leave people's sex lives and relationships the fuck alone and mind your own damn pee-pees, Republicans. SMALL GOVT. Get OUT of our beds!

@BootsChantilly Would be a shame if those states suddenly find they have a shortage of women.

@BootsChantilly I don’t understand why you’d want to force your partner to stay with you

Knowing your partner doesn’t actually want to be with you sounds like hell—all the heartbreak of rejection without a chance to move on.

@BootsChantilly I have never understood marriage

My mom is divorced 2 times over so not really a great example! Besides.. I think marriage is so 1900's :blobblush:

Just another label people like to put on themselves I guess

For me personally it doesn't add any more value to the relationship

@stux There are very real practical advantages to it here.

@BootsChantilly

Most of this happened to my Mother.
Abusive husband, two kids.

She took the kids and left him.
No chance of divorce.

Fell in love, had a baby, no birth control then. Her abusive husband got the divorce and the kids, with her being declared an unfit mother, my tiny body being proof. My name is forever enshrined in their divorce decree.

Vote. Vote.
Vote as if our very lives depend on it.
