@ai6yr If too many vehicles get stuck, they eventually close the road to clear it.

Even with 4x4, it's possible to sit for hours in traffic jams. Long ago I was up there in the storm that was later made into the movie Snowbound. It was before cell phones. My then-girlfriend used my Ham Radio (she was licensed too) to get local Hams to relay to CHP the locations of stalled vehicles we saw. It took 13 hours to get from Reno to Sacramento, which should take 2 hours on a dry road without traffic.

2019 permanent DST effort in CA/OR/WA had problems. 1st: DST unequally distributes light toward late-day activities. Standard time centers on solar noon. 2nd: it was conditional on all 3 states passing it, and CA got stuck on DST vs standard debate. #DitchTheSwitch #DitchDST #PNW

I see a potential solvable problem in Oregon #SB1548 permanent standard time bill. It only applies to Pacific Time portion of OR. Part of eastern OR near Boise ID is Mtn Time. Another amendment to Oregon #SB1548 #PermanentStandardTime bill makes it conditional upon Washington OR California (changed requirement of both to any of them) adopting permanent standard time to bring it into effect. CA & OR appear on course to #DitchTheSwitch #DitchDST. #PNW
