HAs anyone heard of Tuatahi Fibre? They visited my parents and said they are going to install fibre and disconnect their copper as if they have no choice.

On our bought election "[...] the Atlas Network constantly generates “abundant, seemingly diffusely sourced ‘independent’ publications and media content promoting the same agendas, to exert influence on public opinion and policy without its corporate investors or the global network itself being exposed to public scrutiny.
Newsroom has previously reported the Taxpayers’ Union’s (and the NZ Initiative’s) links to Atlas."

@AnneleiseHall I think read an article at RNZ that mentioned it but didn’t got into too much detail

Betcha this guy who reckons his racist bullshit is a 'distraction' that shouldn't have been leaked from 'a private function' and who "absolutely" supported his leader's stated drive to improve diversity within the National Party won't be offering up his electorate or list spot any time soon. He will though, be 'ultra careful' to not let anyone know what he really thinks in future.

As the posts continue to circulate mentioning Trumps vermin remarks and I see so many people upset that the media isn't covering it correctly, I remind you, I, a reporter who has covered Trump from 2016 and Jan. 6 unceasingly since 2021, got laid off this February on the premise that "Trump didn't matter anymore" among other bullshittery.

I can't believe this is still an unsolved problem. My modest proposal for the last 15 years has been to vilify Max Bradford and unwind his "reforms" by nationalising the generating sector.

Maybe that's a bit radical. I think what he did is far more so. A minimum effort would see some real regulation and huge fines for gouging.

About Amazon's decline in recent months: I have an Amazon account I use ONLY for buying ebooks. Nothing else, ever, going back over a decade.

My recommendations page in that account now contains no ebooks, only products from categories I never purchase, like lawnmowers (I don't have a garden) and dresses (I'm a boring cis male).

I can't actually find any new ebooks I want to read via Amazon recommendations any more. And this seems to be an outcome of deliberate changes? Why would they DO that?

acute_distress,

@cstross @Princejvstin good god man do you even participate in our consumerist society 😉

Almost uniquely among American journalists working at major outlets, @willbunch is calling his peers on their rank cowardice in the face of the emergency our nation faces.

We may well be one election away from a dictatorship, and Big Journalism's business-as-usual approach amounts to collaboration with enemies of democracy.

Talked to a recruiter this morning over coffee about the Otago IT sector.
There are companies screaming out for developers - particularly in Dunedin and Queenstown. I think Microsoft's web assembly implementations (or web assembly in general, actually) are going to radically transform the front-end / back-end specialisations we've seen in the software industry up to this point.

acute_distress,

@paw you know where web assembly is going to change the world…on the server.

No one should feel bad about trying the first option of turning something off and turning it back on again. I was just talking to somebody who is a little less familiar with technology, and they felt bad that this was one of the first things they tried.

In fact, engineers restore everything back to a last known good state all the time before doing troubleshooting. It’s a really smart choice, and people shouldn’t feel bad or stupid for using it as an option in troubleshooting.

acute_distress,

Never thought I’d need to say this, but:
When designing book covers, be aware that a lot of teens and young adults can no longer read cursive. It’s no longer taught in a lot of US schools. I just showed a cool cover to some college students and was shocked that they couldn’t read the title.

acute_distress,

@iju @BranwenOShea @RVLara23 I haven’t manually signed anything for years. Most documents are electronic and I drop in a picture of my signature.
