    Head's up (err... inside, under cover) Kansas, baseball sized hail and 80 mph winds.

    Quite a few YouTube videos where people invest $ and sweat equity into building their perfect off-grid home....which they build inaccessibly. This not only says they don't really have disabled friends with mobility disabilities, but it also communicates how confident they are that they will never become disabled. Many of them are doing risky physical activities many miles away from hospitals... and they're confident they'll remain abled no matter how old they live to be.

    @glightly Some of the stuff they do actually might result in becoming disabled, IMHO.

    Death Valley has been running 2-4 degrees F above yesterday, high so far same as yesterday but 2 hours early, they could get close to 130. NWS & Accu are forecasting 129. https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/vef/rec/index.php?loc=DV

    @dssstrkl @AlaskaWx @weathermatrix Furnace Creek is nice, but make sure you look at rain forecasts... the campground get rather boggy when it rains (will, it will flood out). It's nicer than Texas Springs (up the road, the overflow) which is like camping in a parking lot in Phoenix in the heat; there are trees/low bushes to break up the glare and wind.

    @dssstrkl @AlaskaWx @weathermatrix Texas Springs. Cool... er... warm place.

    ai6yr,
    @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org avatar

    @dssstrkl @AlaskaWx @weathermatrix It's well worth it! November/December probably before it rains is ideal. Avoid just doing the standard tourist spots and hikes (which are fine... but better not to be part of the giant pack of people, IMHO.. Some good secondary locations.).

    @dssstrkl LOL I did go through a haboob sleeping under the stars there at Texas Springs, it was a great experience, though it kind of was like brushing your teeth with dirt all night.

    @dssstrkl If you can time it right.. Death Valley Dark Sky Festival is worth it. We accidentally did that when I was running a bunch of kids there in a Star Wars themed camping weekend, and I ran into a ranger (from my area) at the Visitor's Center, who said: "hey, come over to the airport tonight". (same trip as the haboob). Saw more planets there through I think 50 different telescopes... it was epic, and it fit our "Star Wars" theme, by accident. https://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/death-valley-dark-sky-festival.htm

    Surface Duo 2 to monitor radar via RadarScope

    Mac laptop to monitor Mastodon & other soc media (way too many tabs)

    @c_merriweather I'm hoping the shade cloth will keep the tomatoes going through August... last year they got pretty cooked, even with misting, and didn't last as long as I had hoped.
