What #NYTimes critics are calling for is not censorship, as executive editor Joe Kahn pretends, but a recognition that the paper is not merely holding up a mirror to the world, but making choices about what’s important for readers to know—and that those choices have real-world consequences.
RE #nytimes reported that MSNBC hosts,...They say their message — that Mr. Trump’s candidacy represents a unique and clear threat to democracy — is an urgent one for the electorate to hear
I dont see fascist #propaganda on #msnbc, I see great in the court reporting, like "he has his eyes closed 80 to 90% of the time"
⭕He is showing his defiance to the #TrumpTrial jury
If not for MSNBC, only the jury would see this fascist conman tactic
The NYTimes' Spelling Bee is a great word game. My Bogdle word game is also good, but not quite as professional, and maybe not as bug-free and "sticky".
That being said, Spelling Bee really needs a "this is a valid word" CSS class on the guess container BEFORE you submit it.
The #NYTimes says it's not their fault if bad things are done with their good reporting. The problem is that their reporting is put to bad ends because it's bad reporting.
@nytimes has a cool Buying vs Renting housing calculator.
Given how low my rent is in the Midwest, seems like renting is the smarter financial choice atm. But finances aren't everything. QOL is important too, though harder to quantify.
Here's all you need to know about Mark Penn's column: it does not use the word "abortion."
There's no point listening to any electoral advice that doesn't suggest Dems lean into their best issue in 50 years, one proven in 2022 & 2023 to work nationwide.
The NYT has for some reason (maybe since the new head editor in 2022? IDK, that's only a guess) become explicitly anti-Biden. I suspect that this article is their concern-trolling way of criticizing Biden, and doesn't at all represent actual constructive advice from someone who wants him to win.
I made some kind of noise yesterday about wanting to cancel my subscription because of this bullshit; I just followed through.
Interesting info for anyone curious: If you attempt to cancel your subscription online, it'll offer you $1/week for a full year if you stay. It's honestly a pretty good deal for their non-propaganda stories. But on the other hand, fuck 'em.
Since October 7—as #Israel has killed more journalists, in a shorter period of time, than any country in modern history—the #NYTimes has minimized when not ignoring this mass murder.
[Politico]: The Petty Feud Between the NYT and the White House
Biden’s people think they’re “entitled.” The Times says “they’re not being realistic.” By Eli Stokols
@politicususa Or, to put it differently, the #NYTimes is concerned that President Biden is losing his mental powers, wants to test his fitness in a way normal for campaigns, the President refuses to give them the opportunity, and so they think it's likely that the White House is trying to hide a problem.
@GottaLaff
I knew the #NYTimes sucked but I didn't know how hard.
This is the reason they want to suck up to Trump because Joe said fuck off no interview?
Candy assed bitches is what they are.
This isn't journalism, it's kindergarten games.
Meta lost $3.85 billion on the metaverse in the first quarter of 2024 alone. You know, that thing we all laughed about a couple years ago and next to no one actually uses.
It’s burned $45 billion on the metaverse since the end of 2020.
Could y'all please add (paywalled) or ($) or (€) when you post links here to content behind paywalls? It is really annoying to click through several "consent banners" and other popups, thus feeding gazillions of trackers, just to get the "to continue reading, please subscribe" message. #kthxbai
@jwildeboer@isleofmandan
Attention #nytimes subscribers. Each of you receives 10 “gift” posts per month that are exempt from paywall counting. Selected topics and articles of importance are exempted from paywall.
Each reader is entitled to 10 monthly hops over the paywall for counted content.
I try to use my 10 gifts here as there are few stories worth forwarding.
Among the terms the #NYTimes memo tells reporters to avoid: “Palestine” (“except in very rare cases”), “occupied territories” (say “Gaza, the West Bank, etc.”) and “refugee camps” (“refer to them as neighborhoods, or areas”). The memo discourages the use of the terms “genocide” (“We should…set a high bar for allowing others to use it as an accusation”) and “ethnic cleansing” (“another historically charged term”).
When a credible charge of genocide has been made, you need to discuss the accusation thoroughly -- you can't "set a high bar for allowing others to use it as an accusation," as the #NYTimes insists--that's a recipe for making sure than when a genocide is happening, it won't be stopped.
really upsetting to see former Wikimedia Foundation director and CEO Katherine Maher getting targeted by the rightwing outrage machine in her new role as NPR CEO. she's wonderful, and NPR is lucky to have her. i hope they stand behind her.
The #NYTimes once published an article saying that #Hitler wasn’t really that bad. He was just using #antisemitism as a way to attract followers & keep them excited about his #political campaign.
The NYTimes more recently published an article saying that #Trump isn’t really that bad. He is just using threats of #violence & #authoritarianism as a way to attract followers & keep them excited about his political campaign.
The #NYTimes instructed journalists covering Israel’s war on Gaza to restrict the use of the terms “genocide” & “ethnic cleansing” & to “avoid” using the phrase “occupied territory” when describing Palestinian land, according to a copy of an internal memo.
The memo also instructs reporters not to use the word Palestine “except in very rare cases” & to steer clear of the term “refugee camps” to describe areas of Gaza settled by displaced Palestinians, who fled from other parts of Palestine during previous wars. The areas are recognized by the UN as refugee camps & house hundreds of thousands of registered refugees.
