je dis ça parce que, on parle hein, mais disons que je m'apprêtais à voyager dans une ville X et que j'étais tenté de prendre un airbnb mais qu'on m'apprenait que, ce faisant, je m'exposais à une amende qui reviendrait à doubler ou tripler le montant de la location?

eh bien, je me prendrais un hôtel, juste pour éviter les surprises.

@xavsworld je te rassure, ce n'est pas «une idée» et je ne propose rien. je dis juste comment moi, comme touriste, je réagirais si j'apprenais qu'il y a même aussi peu qu'une chance sur 100 que je me farcisse une grosse amende juste parce que j'ai loué un appart sur airbnb.

@VieilOgre j'imagine bien les raisons pourquoi on ne cible pas les touristes. mais sachant qu'ils participent (de plus ou moins plein gré) à un commerce illégal, ça reste étonnant qu'on n'y pense même pas.

mais en effet, déjà, taxer raisonnablement les utilisateurs d'airbnb (et d'uber, tant qu'à faire) me semblerait le minimum dans une société qui tient à la survie de son filet social. taxe qui mènerait très probablement à la disparition à moyen terme de ces compagnies.

@nemobis @soheb not sure of the exact percentage but it's over 80% of the sale price. i deal with bandcamp directly but that's because i self-publish. a label would split this revenue with the artist according to the contract they signed.

either way, there's absolutely no comparison in terms of revenue between streaming & digital download. unless you have a bona fide hit on your hands, streaming is legalized theft.

@devnull media from other sites (images, audio, video, etc.) often comes with third-party cookies. that said, i agree that caching media takes too much space. it's a systemic problem (people got used to upload humongous files without thinking about it). on my (experimental) social network, i “solved” this by not allowing any images. it works in my context but it's not a universal solution obviously. still, i wish people thought about the footprint of their media a bit more.

@heliomass not a fan of tapping my credit card everywhere i go. having a specific card that is just for transit is fine, accessible & very secure. now, having the option of paying credit directly in the bus… sure, why not. but let's not make this the endgoal. (& let's especially not pander to the techbro wet dream that would have commuters need to download a phone app just to get on the bus.)

@heliomass possibly, i don't know about london, but i travelled to paris & brussels, & they both have their perks.

one thing that has improved about opus is that you can now recharge it in a few places such as drugstores (jean coutu for example). it used to be you needed to go to a metro station for that.

there might also be a cultural gap. i had an english friend 20 years ago who would use her credit card for everything & that was shocking to me back then. just different cultural habits.

@smsm1 @heliomass i agree that using your debit/credit card directly in the bus/metro is great as a traveller (i also agree that app-based solutions are crap) but figuring out how local fares work can be a good way to save on transit in many cases. or else you would need a very smart payment system that automatically charges the best fare for you… but there's little incentive for transit companies to do that (i might be wrong on that).

@heliomass @smsm1 i'll have to beg to differ. i don't think a pure cashless society is something we should aspire to at any time. overreliance on plastic money (or apps) excludes a lot of people, & for a service as universal as transit that's a huge problem.

also, i don't mind people paying cash in buses. that's not even an issue to me. lack of service & lack of reserved lanes is what makes montréal buses inefficient. cash payment is very far down the list of problems in my opinion.

@smsm1 @heliomass here in hochelaga (where there's one bus every half hour during the day), the only thing making the bus slow is cars, cars, cars. but as soon as you get on the SRB pie-ix which has a reserved lane in the middle of the street, it zooms from one side of the island to the other, cash or not.

i don't think you can eliminate all friction from transit. we're in a metropolis, there's humans of all sorts, it's messy. what we do need is more friction on the car side. :)

@xavsworld le truc que le public pourrait déjà retenir, c'est que ce sont des informaticiens qui tirent l'alarme, et non des quidams sortis de nulle part.

d'autre part, on oublie que le papier aussi est une technologie de conservation de données. dans le cas d'un vote, la quantité de données à conserver n'est pas énorme, la vitesse de lecture n'est pas absolument nécessaire, mais la transparence est cruciale. le vote électronique fournit un niveau de puissance inutile et réduit la transparence.
