#WordPress Based on what I’ve seen, Block Themes are not growing and are barely used. This is based on the low and declining install counts for Block Themes from WP.org. Whenever someone says “Block Themes are the future of WordPress”, it makes you feel like you should be focusing resources there. But based on the evidence so far, that’s not true. If the trends remain as they have been for 2 years, how much wasted time will have been spent by WP business to build for a future that will never be?

dustinrue,
@dustinrue@chateaude.luxe avatar

@johnstonphilip 🤔 how many block based themes have been created that don't use something from WP.org as a base or don't report to WP.org?

Who is the market for block based themes, is there a different method available for measuring block based theme usage?

FWIW, the boards I picked up recently are mildly cheaper today than the day I bought them - https://amzn.to/4dGkHeo. I went with the pair so I immediately had two items that could chat with each other and this set includes the IPX to SMA adapter so I can use a different antenna more easily in the future.

That is an affiliate link earning me a small commission on the sale but costing you nothing extra.

Apple has accomplished one thing with the Files app: it’s made people a lot less critical of the Finder.

dustinrue,
@dustinrue@chateaude.luxe avatar

@drdrang @viticci I stopped using Windows full time probably 12 years ago in favor of a Mac. Whenever I sit at a Windows system and move files around it is so much better. I don't understand how after a million years, give or take, I still can't cut files from one spot to another without using a keyboard shortcut (cmd+option+v btw)

dustinrue,
@dustinrue@chateaude.luxe avatar

@drdrang @viticci how do you move a file? The workflow of copy/paste and then deleting is lame.

dustinrue,
@dustinrue@chateaude.luxe avatar

@juandesant @drdrang @viticci which is, ironically, cumbersome IMO. If I am using a tab or a second window and I'm dragging stuff and then for the life of me I can't get it to highlight exactly where I want it to go and now I need to cancel or I ran out of mouse pad or whatever countless reasons…it's annoying. It can be done but all options are just goofy work arounds to having a real cut vs copy operation in a context menu.

dustinrue,
@dustinrue@chateaude.luxe avatar

@juandesant @drdrang @viticci tbh I learned this today too...but talk about hidden and just give me cut option. Oh well.

@flargh either to improve sales or the plastic is the real issue, assuming it is a plastic bottle. I mean, it doesn't become not rubbing alcohol

@dansup for me, everything after lover has been a lot more low key and less fun than before. I don't dislike the newer stuff, still own all of it, but I find the pre-2020 content a lot more enjoyable.

Multiple monitors made a lot more sense for me when resolution was lower but with higher resolution displays available I am happier with a single screen and virtual desktops.

I don’t like Google Chrome today for the same reason everyone didn’t like IE years ago. People act like it is the only browser so they only test on that browser.

dustinrue,
@dustinrue@chateaude.luxe avatar

Today I use Vivaldi for work and on Linux for personal use but on Mac I use Safari. Aside from rare cases of incompatibility, I honestly don’t see a benefit to Chrome. Then again I also use single monitor (after years of triple monitor) and close tabs regularly. I also strategically tile windows and extremely rarely do I full screen anything but video.

@majorlinux if you use Time Machine for backups you might use the terminal tool tmutil to remove snapshots

dustinrue,
@dustinrue@chateaude.luxe avatar

@Ric @ivory @andycarolan this is basically a Mastodon/decentralized this. There is no central spot to look up users. It is feature or a curse, depending on what you want from Mastodon.

dustinrue,
@dustinrue@chateaude.luxe avatar

@Ric @ivory @andycarolan correct, because that instance knows all, it has to. But my instances, where the profile is being stored, does not know everything about the user in question. So you must go to the source of truth. Now, whether or not Ivory could use some API call to get that info is a question I don't have a answer to because I don't know anything about the ActivityPub protocol
