Born in the Valleys, living in the Vale.

Christian, dad to 2 and husband.

MLOps Lead @ Admiral.

Enjoy hiking, reading and tinkering with code.

Interested in how technology can empower communities through communication and self-sufficiency (ala #solarpunk).

Talk to me about how we can use Technology & Machine Learning to make Wales a better place, for all, at a grass roots level.

Cautiously pro-independence šŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳ó æ but donā€™t expect politics from me here.

Does the have ways of distributing long form writing like blog posts?

I have a website (huwfulcher.com) and want to write a small server that syndicates new blog posts out

Never got around to an toot on my old profile so I guess I should do one here!

Iā€™ll leave the general background to my profile and instead capture what Iā€™ll likely be posting about here:

All of the above specifically related to

I avoid most of the time so donā€™t follow expecting any of that!

@alxd people may come to me for political discourse but I wonā€™t indulge! šŸ˜‰

When we use ML for empowerment rather than profit and focus on data that solves problems rather than data that focuses on people we will see the full benefits of ML.

Iā€™m also interested on how we use ML sustainably, focusing on optimising and running locally rather than in big data centres!

In Solarpunk Iā€™m much more drawn to the intersection of nature and tech than the ā€œpoliticsā€ side. Probably a better word for it!

@alxd for me itā€™s the aspects of socialism. Iā€™m in no way anti-socialist but I also wouldnā€™t call myself socialist. I donā€™t really know where I sit and still figuring it out

Iā€™m pro cooperatives, community organisation & permacomputing. But Iā€™m focused on how we can use technology in a Solarpunk way that respects the environment and people

For ML it needs to pass the question of ā€œis this needed?ā€ And ā€œis it ethicalā€. Bias can never be fully removed but also isnā€™t bad depending on definition

@alxd I guess what Iā€™m trying to say is. Is that the bit about Solarpunk that interests me the most is the use of technology in harmony. Itā€™s not that I disagree with the more ā€œpeopleā€ parts of it, I just find the technology part more engaging.

Thereā€™s probably a more specific term, maybe akin to ubiquitous computing
