Does anybody know of a FOSS Android application for keeping track of the location of Bluetooth devices?

jawsh,
@jawsh@fedi.jawsh.xyz avatar

@RL_Dane am able to detect and view the device in mind via map in the app. I'm not sure how useful it will be when locating when lost tho. Doesn't seem to be an option to ring devices or notify if a disconnect occurs. I've got one of those BLE/GPS tracker card for my wallet. So far the only way I'm able to use it on my Pixel 8 running Graphene is via sandboxed Google Services being installed. Bummer to resort to that for one thing only when I have no other use for them.

So Casio fans, there is often talk about how module 593's major failing is its backlight. And yes, it is pretty weak and uneven. I too have thrown shade at it and yet, if I am totally honest I don't recall ever having struggled to read it in real life.

While in photos it often comes out looking totally unreadable, I find that with the naked eye (in the dark at night), I have always read the entire display just fine.

Is this just me?

@kev whoaaa, this solves my issue with the F-84W back light!

I tested changing the username of a Mostr account. It does successfully change on Mastodon and all the posts and stuff are preserved. But then it didn't display any new posts from that account until I switched the username back. Pleroma of course worked fine.

@alex username or @*handle ? Is it possible to make the bridge opt in per user and allow users to set a username upon joining? It's a bummer with the usernames not being friendly on the Fediverse side of things.

@adamsdesk she's not used to wearing anything other than a harness. She wasn't ba big fan of it at first but after about 15 minutes she decided to just accept it. Just a little something to help keep warm on cold Maine winter walks, if the weather decides to het and stay cold. I only planned on getting her boots due to the salt on the roads/sidewalks drying and cracking her foot pads but then I saw this and decided it could be useful.

2 pairs of Soundcore, AirPods, Pixel Buds, Galaxy Buds+ & 2 sets if cheap JBL's all destroyed because my kids like to take them while I'm at work and then the dog chews them when they are left laying around the house.
Looks like I'm going shopping for some new eartune blasters.
And if this happens again, I may have to cut my childrens hands off. 🤷‍♂️

jawsh,
@jawsh@fedi.jawsh.xyz avatar

@adamsdesk well, I know better. Mine have been around for 13 & 15 years now. But yes, I'm probably going to put the next pair up with my gun when not in use. Which until now is the only thing in my home that is locked up.

@alex question for you, since I don't know any real life vegans. My youngest daughter has decided she doesn't want to eat meat anymore, I myself eat meat but I've decided it's probably best to let her make her own choice vs trying to force her to eat something she doesn't wish to eat. Wondering about protein alternatives to meat products, preferably things that are not super processed & crazy expensive?

Hello Mobile: $5/month unlimited calls & texts with 500mb data. Once they launch their eSim support this month, I'll be porting my Google Voice number. Voice is the only reason I still have my Google account. T-Mobile isn't the greatest in my area but it will work good enough for what I currently use Google Voice for. 👍

jawsh,
@jawsh@fedi.jawsh.xyz avatar

@adamsdesk I certainly pay more for my main phone line. I use Google Voice mostly to avoid giving my number out online when signing up for services, trials, etc. Very rarely do I use it, so a cheap plan with an MVNO should be good enough.

@Mehrad @aral @adirtyhippie I'd argue against that by saying that the "ice particles" are most likely salts. I say this as somebody who lives in Maine where salts and such are spread for a good chunk of each year. The tire is to illustrate where the micro plastic being talked about comes from. Tire do in fact add lots of micro plastics to not just the ocean but all bodies of water. Lakes, ponds, rivers, etc.

jawsh,
@jawsh@fedi.jawsh.xyz avatar

@Mehrad @adirtyhippie I've never been to Finland so I can't speak about salted roads there but in the US (or at least the State I am in) it's not uncommon to see salt chunks larger than the the ones in the image.

Open source smart speaker under $25, yes or no?

jawsh,
@jawsh@fedi.jawsh.xyz avatar

@aral the community will be responsible for developing the software, just like every other device they make. That's their thing and it's a good thing. @PINE64

jawsh,
@jawsh@fedi.jawsh.xyz avatar

@aral the make it perfectly clear that the community is responsible for the software and that they only provide the hardware side of things. So when buying theor products you should expect things to not work perfectly out of the box. I can't speak on the PineBook as I don't have one but I recommend dusting off the Pinephones, I've used mine as a daily driver for years now.
@PINE64 donate me a PineBook so I can chime in on it? 😂

jawsh,
@jawsh@fedi.jawsh.xyz avatar

@aral I'd argue that their hardware does in fact work as advertised, as they advertise that their products software is enabled and developed by the community. That's the whole point of the business model they use, the products are designed for developers and enthusiasts. I feel all their products are great educational devices. I've got the Pinephone, Pinetime and PinePower desktop and use them all daily. @PINE64

jawsh,
@jawsh@fedi.jawsh.xyz avatar

@aral there is a difference indeed, I agree. I wouldn't count on it changing tho. I don't really see many people take this stance with Pine64 products myself. I can see how some people would feel that way tho, luckily other options can be found if you know where to look.

Still tinkering with these macOS Folder (micro)SD card cases. 📁

Light Blue (the darker ones) or Ice Blue (the light one)?

Oh and… They now feature built-in magnets to keep the cases closed! 🧲

Multiple 3D printed SD card cases, shaped like an macOS folder. Photographed on top of a MacBook Pro keyboard. The folders are colored in two separate shades of blue. One of the open folder cases is holding a microSD card. One of the others holds an full size SD card adapter.

jawsh,
@jawsh@fedi.jawsh.xyz avatar

@adamsdesk I was thinking the same. I've got a mess of cards and these would be a super neat way of organizing them. @Bas
