Nigel Farage to make 'emergency General Election announcement' | The National

@JackTheCat Why does the media keep giving this utter wankstain coverage?

jezbers, to random
@jezbers@metalhead.club avatar

Couple of things really getting my goat in the media, it's Donald Trump former President, it is not President Trump so maybe correct people when they make that statement. Second, can the media stop the non-stop broadcast of what Trump, the GOP and other MAGA loons think and broadcast some facts? It's no wonder the USA is in such a mess politically and if it doesn't change people will believe the utter nonsense they are being told.

jezbers, to random
@jezbers@metalhead.club avatar

Trump is just like Boris Johnson. They believe they are above the law and try and belittle and deflect from anyone who dares to shine the light on them. Delighted the orange dictator is convicted but the media needs to stop focussing on playing what "Trump" thinks about it and would do better to focus on the actual questions, was it fair, was it politically motivated otherwise they just keep reinforcing the views of the nutjobs.

President Biden called on the Senate to approve the Ukraine aid package as quickly as possible

The US President, in his official statement, thanked the House of Representatives for passing the aid package to Ukraine and Israel.

“This comes at a time of great need, when Israel is facing unprecedented attacks from Iran and Ukraine is under continuous bombardment from Russia,” the White House said .

jezbers,
@jezbers@metalhead.club avatar

@Free_Press why the aid to Israel? I’m not anti-Semitic, but I can’t see why they need aid right now. Gaza on the other hand are desperate. Was this an error in reporting or genuine?

I am sick of the media. Newsnight are only interested in political gains or risks. Not once do they actually ask what is right for the country. It's all just a game of who gets in power. Suggest they change their name to "political party night" as it has nothing to do with news. News should be informative and for the general public. Our entire system is seriously fucked and will not ever be right until media actually stand for news. Politics is not news, it's just power games.

@silberspur Sadly I get the feeling we are a mature civilization on the verge of collapse. Corporates, now with such huge global wealth still don't take it seriously and neither do governments. In the past collapse just meant civilization, this time it means the planet. I'll keep recycling and voting green but I fear we are doomed. i guess that's why civilizations fail, they get so large that truth and common sense get lost in greed and momentum/inertia finally wins.

The IRS is sending out more than 125,000 notices to individuals who made $400,000 or more and failed to file returns between 2017 and 2021.

It's estimated that the richest Americans are dodging $150 billion worth of taxes every year.

This is why IRS funding is a good thing.

jezbers,
@jezbers@metalhead.club avatar

@rbreich Never mind the individuals, it's the corporates that are screwing everyone. I agree though funding IRS and in the UK HMRC is positive but I wish they would focus on the corporates and stop chasing the easier targets of individuals.

Let's just stop for a moment.

Let's read this, and think about the real message contained in this statement.

The ability to make decisions (and take action) untroubled by consideration of the law and justice is the hallmark of a dictatorship; or lunacy.

This Tory government (raiding-party) must be swept away.

The people of Britain must have democracy.

jezbers,
@jezbers@metalhead.club avatar

@RussCheshire well said. What really gets me is all the debate seems to be about will Rishi survive, what does it mean for Starmer, but none is talking about the insanity of creating a law that says black is white, and then says no legal challenge is possible. Let alone talking about what is right for humanity. The Tories are beneath contempt but the media remain complicit.

A_Dommerholt, to nuclear Dutch

I fear that tomorrow or Thursday we will witness the largest disaster the world has ever seen.

The has repeated today that it expects that will blow up the . That is of course Russia-speak for the fact that they are planning to do this themselves and blame Ukraine.

When the enormous disaster at happened, it involved only one reactor. The nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia has six reactors. If decides to blow up all six, it would be one of the biggest disasters the world has ever seen.

I truly hope that I am wrong and there are reasons for Russia not to do this. Mainly that the would spread to Russia itself (as well as the occupied Ukrainian territories that it has now illegally annexed), it would expose Russian soldiers to radiation poisoning and it would serve little tactical purpose.

But this is Russia. They have consistently done things during this war that made little sense, from starting the invasion in the first place to blowing up the dam at Nova Kakhovna, which left without its main source of drinking water. So, blowing up the largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine is not at all unthinkable, especially now that Russia is losing this war.

jezbers,

    Even now I cannot get my head around the staggering £37 BILLIONS allocated to a two year UK Covid test and trace scheme, of which almost £30 billions were spent.

    It was hardly a roaring success.

    Where did all the money go and what were they thinking?

    @DTJackson It is truly eye watering and never explained. That's over £350 million a week, or over £50 million a day. I can't even think how you would begin to spend that sort of money. Someone has made a fortune out of this. Who is it?

    No-one will be surprised that three quarters of companies have executives who previously worked for ... this sort of revolving door/co-option is pretty common in regulated industries.

    It may or may not be the cause of being asleep at the wheel, but clearly signals a worryingly close relationship between water from & their regulator.

    The key reason to hire them is that they know how the system works & how to 'game' it... & the result is the & everywhere

    jezbers,

    @ChrisMayLA6 to be honest I think the fundamental problem is their priority is profit, whereas it should be clean, abundant, efficient water supply and positive climate impact. It can only be solved in my view by nationalisation.
