A drama in three acts

  • register: (captcha) I think I should have an account already?!
  • login: (captcha) obviously not, I could register the mail address
  • no idea, same page as before without login button
  • click link in email: „obviously“ not a member

I have no idea what’s going on.
I’m not sure I have the energy to care.
I might simply reassign the money to another org.

@fallenhitokiri this seems oddly familiar. Went through the exact issues this morning as well. Didn't bother to investigate, figuring, I'd get another email from @ThePSF with an update what the issues are. Because, really, I can't be the only one running into this.

When writing docs, sometimes when I need to refer to a specific line in codebase, I'd point to the GitHub permalink (looks like /repo/blob/hash/filepath/index.md#L10), instead of the "actual" url (looks like /repo/blob/main/filepath/index.md#L10)

I thought this is a good practise because content could change, things moved around, but on a few occasions I've had reviewer telling me to replace the permalink with the "main" url instead.

Am I missing something? What is the preferred practise here?

markush,
@markush@chaos.social avatar

@mariatta I prefer the permalink as well. One can always get to the latest version rather easily. But finding the version based on which you wrote the documentation would be hard.

@carlton I'm wondering what the best way with django-filter would be to have an exclusive upper bound range filtering. Like, a user selects Jan 2, 2024 to Jan 10, 2024 for items to show. I want to filter out stuff that's before Jan 11, 2024.

The Django docs explicitly state the problem with dates here: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/4.2/ref/models/querysets/#range

markush,
@markush@chaos.social avatar

@carlton Thanks! Yeah, I have something that works. I've also tried to Google for a "ready made" example, but couldn't fine one.

@carlton Works for me 😀. I was more surprised that I didn't see somebody posting that corresponding code yet.

Hi @wagtail do you think we can make this RFC a proposal for Django itself? I know I want a queuing solution in core. I know @jacob does too. I know @webology does too. I know … — hang on that list would go a while. 😅

It reads well. It would make the great basis for a DEP.

This emoji could have been great: 👌️

For me, that hand sign means "perfect!" or "delicious!" or "magnifico!". But somehow the name of the emoji in all my apps is "ok hand", which sounds like "yeah whatever", almost the opposite of having an excited reaction.

But does everyone understand it the intended way?

markush,
@markush@chaos.social avatar

@benjaoming in scuba diving, this sign means "everything is okay". As opposed to 👍, which is "we should go higher/ reduce depth / surface".

Are you a fluent speaker of German, French, Spanish and/or Chinese (simplified script)? We need your help! We want to publish translated versions of our tutorial, and we're testing out automated translations as a way to bootstrap translation efforts.

So - on a scale of 1 to MY EYES THEY BURN… how bad are these translations?

@beeware The German translations are quite good, I think. Sure, the wording here and there could be improved. And it reads rather formal. But that's fine, for the first shot! It certainly is a great way to offer access to the docs for non-English speakers!

Great work!

What do web developers used to manage their VMs?

If you have dozens or more servers for various clients, how do you keep track and administer them?

Is it purely through ssh, or is there some kind of front-end service you use?
