@cosvak That empty narrative is infamously known as the “Tweedle-Dee, Tweedle-Dumb,” “Not a dimes worth of difference,” “Both Sides are exactly the same,” theories. The stock in trade of Nader, Greenwald, Moore, Sarandon, Stein and RFK, Jr. It’s noise that only dispirits voters. Please don’t make more of it.

It also conveniently absolves those spouting this nonsense of any responsibility for making things better.

Clearly you feel like your post was misinterpreted. That happens. Social media is an imperfect medium and it is possible to mistake emphasis. We certainly need a shorthand way of disagreeing with the current administration, but acknowledging such criticism does not mean any wavering in electoral support considering the prospective horror of a second Trump term.

Regret you got lumped in with some of the general "they're both the same" crowd. Thanks for clarifying your position.

mastodonmigration,
@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

@cosvak @shoq

Perhaps the lesson is to try to be unambiguously clear in social media posts, particularly around subjects that are hot button issues. Sarcasm is particularly fraught.

The subject of this administration's shortcomings is a tough one, because there are a lot of provocateurs who are pushing the "voting doesn't matter... both the same" meme. Seriously think we need a good shorthand way to say whatever the concern, will be voting for him, because Trump is an unmitigated horror.

@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

@cosvak @DuncanWatson @shoq

Like, "Not saying won't vote for the guy, I am..." and maybe say why.

The point is the emphasis. It's a crucial election, and unfortunately we only have two choices: Democracy (with its flaws) or Fascism. This stark choice overrides everything, and we only get to fix what is wrong with our democracy if we emerge with it intact. Otherwise we may be looking at generations of darkness. Anything that undermines this message is putting the result at risk.

mastodonmigration,
@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

@cosvak @shoq

Been thinking about this, but it doesn't really address the "not going to vote" for either stuff, which is the more insidious version.

Good ideas welcome!

The Corruption Caravan is making its way across Illinois to urge Senator Durbin to use his power as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee to hold the corrupt Supreme Court accountable.

Thank you to all of the Illinois Indivisibles who are raising awareness with the Corruption Caravan!

Unfortunately Durbin is weak tea when we need a real champion. Don't expect too much from him.

Remember: If markets were actually competitive, corporations would keep their prices as low as possible as they competed for customers.

Instead, the concentration of the American economy into the hands of a few corporate giants gives them the power to raise prices with impunity.

Recalling that this is called "oligopy" as distinct from "monopoly" and suggestive of a political framework called "oligarchy" to which we are well on our way.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour Raises COVID Fears.

"Reports of COVID clusters are circulating after Swift's Paris shows."

"data suggested that hospital visits between May 6-12 rose 20% among those under 15-years-old, and 28% for those 15 and over."

The agency's data suggested that hospital visits between May 6-12 rose 20 percent among those under 15-years-old, and 28 percent for those 15 and over. Meanwhile, scientists have warned of a "summer wave" of infections in the U.S. from a highly transmissible set of omicron subvariants. What We Know Some people on social media who said they had attended the concert have urged fellow attendees to test for COVID-19. One user who attended the Era's Tour in Paris, posted her positive COVID-19 test on TikTok, writing, "Check if you don't have Covid even tho you don't have any symptoms! A lot of us are sick right now." Another concertgoer posted on X, formerly Twitter: "back from the Taylor Swift concert with a scratchy throat, runny nose... If the government had maintained health measures, I would not be in this sad state." France lifted most of its COVID-19 restrictions in March 2022 and since February 2023 there is no requirement to self-isolate if you test positive. Wearing a mask in a public place is recommended, but not mandatory. Views "We know that the most risky places for Covid-19 transmission are poorly ventilated, crowded, indoor places," Christina Pagel, a professor at University College London who focuses on research in health policy, told Newsweek. "We also know that singing or shouting is more risky as more virus is emitted with each breath. Thus big concerts, particularly in older venues with poorer ventilation, represent a higher risk for catching something."

Got Covid attending a concert. First question the doctor asked was if a lot of people were singing. Apparently, singing can help spread the virus, which makes sense.

NEW: At a private Mar-a-Lago dinner, Trump asked oil executives for $1 billion for his campaign and promised to axe regulations. Now, the oil magnates are carrying out their part of the deal with high-dollar Texas fundraisers.

Classic NYT Maggie Haberman finger on the scale masgerading as straight news:

"The prosecutors’ proposed instructions, among other things, ask the judge to give the jury what legal experts said was unusual flexibility in determining whether Mr. Trump had a role in the creation of the false records at the center of the charges."

What "legal experts"?

This is NY law. How is it "unusual" to advise juries about the law?

Those are "Jarts", an insane game they sold to kids in the '60s and '70s.

No, not funny at all. Super dangerous.

Edit: Apologies if the comment could be misconstrued as an endorsement of lawn darts. As a 10 year old kid we spent many fun hours with them, but they were super dangerous, and we had several near catastrophes. Thankfully the worst to happen to us was putting a hole in the aluminum siding of one kid's home.

#TrumpTrial 🧵 Tues 21 May 2024

Testimony may conclude today in Trump’s #criminal NY #ElectionInterference trial, after 5 weeks & 22 witnesses.

Yesterday the jury was introduced to #RobertCostello, a #Giuliani associate & #lawyer who acted as a “back-channel” for #MichaelCohen to #Trump in the summer of 2018.

Yesterday, Costello behaved so atrociously on the witness stand that Juan Merchan cleared the courtroom to admonish him & the defense attorneys. Costello is due back on the stand
