I was told once that Mastodon is a friendly void that yells back. I really like that.

The world is a big place filled with terrible and wonderful things. I sometimes comment on them at length.

Good day to you Fediverse, I hope you are well or as well as can be expected?

I believe today I am hitting the road earlier than normal in search of donuts.

I will alert the masses when I find them.

Do people still do "dreamt"? It sounds better than "dreamed," right?

mentallyalex,

@GrimmReality I tend towards dreamt in speaking, and in creative writing as well depending on the situation.

Sounds fine to me.

Today is my 21st wedding anniversary. On our first wedding anniversary, we were pretty broke, so hubs made me homemade coupons for massages, but he spelled it wrong, so I got a handful of printed out coupons for 1 Hour of Messages. So, every year since I get something like this:

Y'all will find this... interesting.

I was helping a farmer friend today get her car up to her mechanic's place, which is about 10 miles out of town.

On the drive back, she took a call from someone who was looking for raw cow's milk.

She's only on Facebook as far as social media goes, so she hasn't seen any of the news stories about people seeking out raw milk in order to try to infect themselves with to "gain immunity" from it.

She was gobsmacked!

I was trying SO hard not to laugh while she took the call.

I told her that I've seen a number of news stories about people doing exactly this. I said what scares me the most is, the mortality rate is over 50%. One in two people! Why would anyone think this is an acceptable risk?

She appreciated the information I gave her and said that she would adjust her response when she received more calls.

Apparently she's received a lot of calls recently.

She's not even a dairy farmer!

I know 100+ years ago when we didn't have , , or , exposing yourself to pathogens was one way to possibly gain immunity from whatever was going around.

But thousands upon thousands of people were sickened and died from things that we can now prevent or treat with drugs, , , , and vaccines. It wasn't all bread and roses in pre-modern America. Our average life expectancy was almost half what if is today.

"Natural" is not inherently superior. Immunity debt is fucking bullshit. Exposing yourself willingly to a deadly pathogen does not increase your chances of living longer or being healthier afterwards. If someone did this to their kids? It would be flat out child abuse.

Yet, I always forget that most of the population doesn't read a book after they leave school, doesn't believe in science, and thinks if something is on the internet, it must be true.

Even and especially, people in my profession and allied professions believe the wackiest ideas about how the the human body works that are simply not true.

I'm pretty tired of the stupidity of other humans at this point. Go ahead. Drink the raw milk. Take yourself out of the gene pool. I know I can't do anything about it once you've made up your mind to do something so risky and stupid. SMH

mentallyalex,
@mentallyalex@beige.party avatar

@arisummerland I have seen people and articles discussing the raw milk immunity.

I'm hopeful the people who survive don't become weirdly cultish for the few who don't die because of herd immunity. But I'm afraid they will all think they are special and there will be those that worship them.

Coupled with the macho-isms and "winner/loser" mentalities and we have a fun recipe for a bunch of survivors bias.

  • Not this social media environment *

You honestly believe that the ONE space you send users to for assistance can be aggressively over moderated with "volunteers" who use macros and fill automation?

Oh yeah, you are a serious environment who needs deep pocketed investors. :blobcatlaugh:

My friend, we have Reddit. It exists...it's totally a thing. You need to develop past Reddit or they'll just use that. Marketing will die on the vine regardless of which campaigns you deploy.

It cracks me up when people say that people with ADD and ADHD don't actually need their meds, they are just addicted to Adderall. Have they even met a person with ADD or ADHD?
My friends forget to take their meds all the time!

mentallyalex,
@mentallyalex@beige.party avatar

@tayfonay
I was diagnosed as a child back when that was rare and included extra doctors visits and explaining to the schools why I was like this.
"No, he understands you...you just aren't busy enough for him. Leave him alone and he will participate" wasn't really how school worked.

When adderall popularized I was extremely confused for weeks. As a child I hated the stuff and refused to consume it. The idea that 'your kind' use it to stay up late seems so odd to me. It makes the world so gooey and slow... I seriously dislike the experience.

@RickiTarr

mentallyalex,
@mentallyalex@beige.party avatar

@tayfonay
To be clear this was decades ago. For all I know the adderall's gotten better.

I've been around a lot of other drugs, recreationally and otherwise. Ritalin, adderall and a few others were tried.

The best way I can describe it is a completely interrupts something that I use. I've never been able to describe it any other way. I've tried for years.

Big agreement there, I misspoke.

I have no problem with medicating, I should have been more clear. The experiences I had when I was a very young child made me very reluctant to work with Ritalin/Adderall medications FOR ME. I know a ton of people who absolutely need and use them and they should have easier access to them.

Chemicals and people are complex.

For the record, if your "landing area" is filled with individuals who act too busy, too road weary, or too important to help new users, that is a self-fixing system.

Your social media group is dying, and I'm trying to learn it to see if it has reasons to exist. Within hours the faults are very clear.

I doubt they'll believe me when I explain it is them...

My wife tells me that she is observing conversations on X where regular, non-tech users are beginning to consider Linux because of Recall.

That's how bad an idea this is.

mentallyalex,
@mentallyalex@beige.party avatar

@mttaggart it's an easy connection for even non-technicals.

"Hey Uncle Pete, it records every time you web search and keeps it on your hard drive" is easily relevant to even those of us who don't understand how it does these things.

Super dumb move that I am waiting to see what business says.

GossiTheDog, to random
@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social avatar

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

Well, perhaps business will allow pushback...
