- "What is the meaning of Life"" or purpose. Maybe their two different things, or they may mean the same thing. I'm interested in the idea that Meaning or Purpose are artifacts of living a life that allows one to contemplate such matters. Are both an emergent property of a life that involves a level of leisure.

Homeless or starving people, or someone in combat has more pressing concerns than life's meaning or purpose. Staying alive to wonder why later is the issue at hand.\

Reserving judgement on this. While at MicroCenter today, observed that on a Sunday, they had well over 20 Pi4's in 2 and 8 gig sizes in the cabinet. (More of the 8, than the 2.) I'd like to see similar stock of the Pi5, (I haven't seen one in store since it was released) as well as Pi0v2 boards, not sure if those will return. It looks like the Raspberry Pi Foundation is working to restore supply in the hobby market. We'll see if it continues to improve. @geerlingguy @Raspberry_Pi

@aallan While my post may be taken as a complaint, I mean it as a comment of hope that we'll see improvement at all levels. I agree that ramping up is happening.

As to alternatives to Microcenter, if someone within 10 times the distance to my local Microcenter (about 5 miles, so within 50 miles) that I can walk in and put my hands on a PiZeroV2 (any variety) I'll consider it. But I'm not stopping by Joe's garage down the street.

Even though I do bash and laugh about failing cryptocurrency and NFT projects that have SO MANY red flags to begin with...

...I do feel kinda sad about it because so many people blindly trust cryptocurrency project x or y and put in a load of money and it disappears again or gets scammed

While many free open source developers that give away their work for free are struggeling to even keep the lights on

Cryptocurrency and NFT's are not about art or freedom anymore but rather greed again

rusty,
@rusty@ma.zcx.cc avatar

@stux

I think there are several issues with cryptocurrencies and NFT's but they amount to people not understanding what they need to do to retain their earnings, and people not really thinking through the implications of a 'purchase' of something that the creator then makes freely available.

I like the idea of a digital currency. On the other hand I have a concern regarding it's purported untraceability, considering the fact that every transaction is recorded in the ledger that's available.

Why does flying suck so much these days?

It has a lot to do with power — and how greed has overtaken our entire economy.

@stux well, I wasn't expecting to switch to it full time to replace me playing No Man's Sky, but I do want to see more playable space based survival games. They don't have to be procedural games, but a flexible map would be nice. If I want to play a fixed map game, doom has been ported already.

designed up a drill guid to center up a 3/16" bit on pretty much any stock up to 5" wide. Overkill for what I need, but I can use the design to make similar for anything that leaves enough stock on the 20mm frame for stability, I can also add a feature to allow it to handle even larger drills, but I'm not doing that often enough to do that yet. I Need this because when I drilled a 3/16" hole to mount the spinning whell to the vertical support freehand, it was not perpendicular.

rusty,
@rusty@ma.zcx.cc avatar

@chrishuck

In ways it does seem like Overkill, but I think it's far less so than setting up a drill press to drill a hole square to the surface in a 2"x2". Not because that wouldn't be a valid solution, though for me it would involve moving a lot of heavy stuff around...

No, it's because what the activity did for me was let me work out how the tool should work, and how to set up an order of operations to design such a tool and ultimately implement and use it. And the wheel spins freely now.

@geerlingguy

Have you considered breaking the file to transfer up into some number of fragments, and doing transfers in parallel?

My thought is that if you're not actually using the full available bandwidth at any specific endpoint or relay, you may have throughput and headspace available to do another transfer in parallel.

Major issue I see is that copy and paste of the receive command, but that's mostly message passing.

rusty,
@rusty@ma.zcx.cc avatar

@geerlingguy

Depends on how you do it. Perhaps a block handler that grabs 512 bytes at a time, adds a header of either which 'block' this is, or how many bytes into the file it is, output to pipes for the transfer, far end goes into pipes, with a merge that uses the headers to re-assemble the file.

There are likely better ways, but essentially you would build a diverse routing file transfer. Networks have been doing this for decades with eigrp, OSPF and BGP, not to mention etherchannel etc.

Currently my gf is taking driving lessons and we where just talking about driving big cars and trucks

Personally I do not feel safe driving a big car or truck simply because the bigger the vehicle the harder it is to controll it and my gf feels the same

I hear other people say they feel not safe in smaller cars because everyone around them is driving a tank and I also understand that I guess

At the end of the day I just leave the car I don't have and take the electric bike 🚲⚡

rusty,
@rusty@ma.zcx.cc avatar

@stux "Feeling 'safe'" pretty much falls into 2 fields. The first is 'I've been in this situation, before, survived or was injured, so that guides my sense of safety. The other is 'I've been hearing bad things about the world around me so I will arbitrarily tag things as safe or unsafe, and disregard the views of anyone else.

What you describe seems to me to be the first variety, but I know plenty of folk who will declare it is the latter. Regardless, the e-bike option works for me.

@geerlingguy IBM (has / had) some of the very best software developers of all time at the time OS/2 was on the market. I'm having a hard time seeing them as relying on someone else's schedule for meeting challenges for deliverables, with the understanding that they can contribute fixes back to the dev team. Well, unless they have alienated their own developer community as badly as it sounds like they are trying to alienate this developer in this missive.

@wonderofscience Would love to see a video of the wings being stowed under the shell, is it also effectively autonomous, or doe the ladybug use feet or mandibles to get the folds right for a later deploy.

And yes I understand that getting a slow-mo of that, isn't as easy. It's tough to get any creature to land on the focus point of any camera.

It's good to see them occasionally showing up. Still want them all to be reliably available though.
