First real hot day of the summer, here. I’ve been trying out the portable AC unit we got when we bought the house. (It’s a DeLonghi Pinguino) it cools about 700 sq ft. So far it’s kept the living room cool and the kitchen and bedrooms reasonably pleasant, though I’ve closed off the den. Right now, it’s something like 90 outside, and about 74 in the living room. I could get it cool by closing off the bedrooms, but then they’d be hot. Overall, for an affordable, portable unit, it works well.
While I was out, I grabbed a few things from the store & swung by the Goodwill. I’ve been checking out second hand stores for a couple of weeks, trying to find a little lamp for the coffee table by my chair. It’s a really dark spot. But none of the little table lights I’ve found have had lamp shades! Today, however, the Goodwill had a small desk lam! The kind with a bendy neck and it’s just perfect & it was only $3!
I also found lace curtains for the bedroom & a mini bunt muffin tin!
Spent an hour looking for the lost car key so far and haven’t found it yet. It’s so frustrating because it must be here somewhere!!! I don’t want to spend several hundred on a replacement.
I should be able to get a copy of the broken spare key made for less than $10 at a hardware store, but Late Stage Capitalism.
Back to looking.
It occurred to me today that even though over 1 million Americans have died from Covid, we have no national memorial or national day day of mourning and how the powers that be have decided to memory hole the whole thing and how wrong this is.
@KatM I’ve been thinking about the AIDS quilt and thinking we should do something similar for people who’ve died of Covid or lost their health to Long Covid.
So who has two thumbs, lost her one good car key somewhere between the car and the house and now has to drive her car with the broken key and a pair of pliers to turn it because replacement car keys cost hundreds of dollars?
Well, I was going to put up a beautiful, sandy beach with huge sea rocks for today's view, buat apparently none of the pictures saved because I'm out of room on my camera. Gonna have to go delete a few things...
I used the last of my energy today to make a loaf of banana bread. It's a warm day so I have the windows and front door open. But it seems I should have used my energy to put up the bug screen to keep the mosquitoes out instead...
Speaking of mosquitoes, I need to buy some hairspray. It works better than a swatter on them. You just spray it in their general direction and it glues their wings so they can't fly.
I nail 'em with 70-ish% ethyl alcohol. I got gallon jugs in 2020 when hand sanitizer ran out, figured it would make a good glass cleaner (it does!) so I put it in a spray bottle, & thought I'd try it on bugs. It doesn't kill them, but it drops 'em so you can get 'em with a tissue. It doesn't leave a mess behind, and it doesn't hurt most wood finishes, either.
So the smoke that I drove through in the forest on the way home was a prescribed, controlled burn. Thank goodness! I googled it as soon as I got home. I was pretty scared on the drive, though. 😮💨
